Flash Comics #86 is an issue of the series Flash Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 1947.

Synopsis for Flash: "Stone Age Menace"

Jay and Joan are at the site of a meteor crash to look for remnants, when they're suddenly attacked by a tyrannosaurus! They manage to escape its jaws, then suddenly the world seems to melt away and they're in a museum near the fossilized skeleton of a dinosaur, holding meteor fragments they thought they'd found that actually were in a smashed display case. Sure it was more than a delusion caused by the strain of overwork, Jay switches to the Flash and vibrates his way out of his cell to pick up a few things to carry out a plan of his own.

It turns out Professor Lane, the curator who'd sent Jay and Joan to look for the meteor, has been selling museum exhibits to collectors and substituting fakes. The dinosaur that attacked Jay and Joan at the meteor crash was real, in that it was a real robotic fake. After it knocked them out, they were taken back to the museum and made to think they'd hallucinated the attack. Meanwhile, the Flash had been able to make it seem like Jay Garrick was still in prison by means of a dummy with a two-way microphone.

Synopsis for Hawkman: "The Valley of the Purple Pilgrim"

In the days of the Salem Witch Trials, a man known as the Purple Pilgrim was convicted of practicing magic by a judge Sanders. In the modern day, Jonathan Sanders displays artwork of the Purple Pilgrim at a society party, and the practicioner of the dark arts steps forth from it and shoots him dead! He soon sets out on a murder spree of all others who share the name of his prosecutor...including Shiera Sanders, which gets Hawkman involved. From the message "cart" written on her mirror, Hawkman deduces his quarry is in the horse-drawn cart he and his avian ally spot.

The trail leads to an isolated community whose lifestyle, and even fashion, haven't evolved in 300 years since their ancestors settled that area. They cut themselves off from the rest of the world over what they perceived as the unjust execution of the Purple Pilgrim, allowing the current one, descended from the original, to simply walk into town and declare himself the lord mayor. When Hawkman shows up to save Shiera, he's attacked from behind and set to be burned at the stake. However he manages to catapult a flaming brand into his hands and burn away his ropes before he's consumed by the blaze. Now he easily captures the Purple Pilgrim. The locals, who were appalled by the violence of the Purple Pilgrim's methods, are only too happy to move on and join the 20th century.
