Ronal was a young physician living in Tritonis, who used magic to heal a wounded Lori Lemaris[1].

Eventually, he and Lori were married, but his dabbling with dark magic eventually drove him mad. He attacked the other merfolk with his form-altering power, including Lori. She sought out assistance from Superman, who ultimately stopped Ronal and his mutated sea creatures. When Superman destroyed Ronal's staff, the wizard was apparently turned to stone.[2]

Powers

  • Atlantean Physiology: Ronal can develop human legs on land and the lower half of a fish when in water. He can swim at incredible speeds and can withstand the pressure of the ocean at great depths. Adapted for breathing underwater and resisting deep-sea-level pressure.

Abilities

  • Medicine: Ronal was a skilled, albeit unconventional, physician in Atlantis. He augmented medicine with magic.

Weaknesses

  • Asphyxiation: Atlanteans can only exist outside of water for a limited period of time or else they will dehydrate, asphyxiate and ultimately die.

Equipment

  • Black Staff: Magical wooden staff shaped like an eel, which granted shape-altering powers.
    • Magic: Ronal's black staff allowed him to shape flesh as if it were clay.
    • Shape-Shifting: Ronal's staff gave him the ability to change his own shape at will.
