<p>I think Leto will play the character very well based on the material that has been released so far. Unfortunately the design is terrible. I can't find any source material for a Joker with tattoo's. The Joker's only obsessions are only meant to be Batman and chaos, and yet these tattoo's seem to be extremely egocentric. The metal teeth are horrific, and I have no idea who thought they were a good idea. Even the fact that Joker is shirtless is wrong, as I'm pretty sure the entire point of him is that you have no idea what's going on underneath his clown 'costume'. They've ruined the greatest DC villain in a poor attempt to make Joker look insane, and instead they've made him look like a pimp/gangster. The Joker should be an insane, charismatic, genius psychopath who wants nothing more than to carry out his game with Batman forever. I'm sure that Jared Leto's portrayel of the clown prince of crime will be brilliant, but in the end that design will ruin it for all true Batman and Joker fans </p>

<p>As far as I'm aware All-Star Batman isn't canon. Plus there's a difference between the dragon tattoo he had in that continuity (for which I assume there was a reason) and the ridiculous tattoos on Leto like smiles and damaged. The joker needs to be kept to a certain extent to his general principles, but the new one has gone too far. </p>

<p>It's canon on Earth-31. "A Joker" would, by our definition of the word "a", include alternate universes. </p>

<p>I disagree with saying that alternate universes are included. You wouldn't want a superman from another universe used in a film for example (unless it was alongside the 'normal' superman). It just makes sense to keep to the general ideal of joker. It's perfectly easy to put your own spin on the character to fit the film (probably similar to the more sadistic joker that appears following batman rip) and yet still keep the character as he is expected </p>

<p>What I mean is, when we here at DC Database say "a Joker", we mean "any incarnation of the Joker". It's a perfectly normal definition, and from a semantic point of view, makes more context than excluding elseworlds and/or incarnations. </p><p>Hence Wally's answer. There was <i>a</i> Joker with tattoos. </p>

<p>Joker had tattoos in All-Star Batman. </p> </div> <p>Yup. And his "grill", is a pretty genius idea. Have you ever thought of how many times Joker has been punched in the face by the Bat? Or other heroes? It´s only reasonable he´s broken atleast a few teeth, and now he´s wearing the Grill, to replace them. </p>
