21 QUESTIONS PROTOCOL

N8THGR8's PROTOCOL

(Based on rules set by ScavengerOne)

SET-UP

* The choice of character is up to the Quizmaster, according to guidelines set out in the Roscoe Protocols.

* The Quizmaster should not use a character that they have recently edited in the DC Database. N8. 🤔.

* Rules outside of the N8 Protocol should be set out by the Quizmaster in the Original Post.

GAMEPLAY

* Questions shall be in a form that can be answered YES, NO, or MAYBE.

* When asking, a player posts the word "Question" (Or "Vic Sage" or "Renee Montoya") followed by their question.

* A single player shall wait two turns between Questions. Each hour that passes counts as a turn.

* Guesses on the character's identity count as Questions.

* Gambit Guess: A single player *can* make a Guess immediately after asking a Question; but this counts as *2* Guesses if they are incorrect.

* Maximum three Guesses per player. After three Guesses, a single player gets no HAIL MARY Guess. The Quizmaster does not answer their Guess and any other player can then be a Rubber Johnny and make the same Guess.

* Guesses are not transferable between players.

"HAIL MARY" Gameplay

* The final Question is reserved for Guesses on the identity of the character.

* Each player only gets one final "Hail Mary" Guess.

* Good Grief! (Charles Brown, Kite-Man). Once Questions are used up, the Quizmaster is encouraged to give clues to the character's identity, but it is not required.

FLEXIBILITY

* Appearances or awareness of the character outside the immediate DCU count as appearances or titles.

APPEARANCES

* Number of appearances should be greater than the years since creation, unless over 30. Minimum 10.

COMPLETENESS

* All important appearances should already exist in the DC Database; both continuity and events.

TITLES

* Appeared in three titles or more unless total appearances are over 50.

KRONA PROTOCOL

In the event that the Oan Central Battery is threatened or compromised, it is shunted into the pocket dimension.

</p><p>Jonny’s Protocol:</p><p>🖤😎🖤😎🖤😎🖤😎🖤😎🖤😎🖤😎🖤😎🖤</p><p>Flexibility:</p><p>🖤 Existences/continuities in the 4 main continuity eras (Earth-One, Earth-Two, New Earth, and Prime Earth) all count as well as other publisher continuities that have been added to DC, as long as they’re accounted for on the wiki. I’m mostly referring to Fawcett, Quality, and Charlton (ironically where our 1st answer originates from), but other instances count to, again though ONLY if they’re accounted for on the wiki.</p><p>🖤 Existences/continuities across all timelines and periods count, IF said timelines and periods have 15 appearances minimum. This is to assure no single arc, one shot, mini, or maxi one use timelines or periods come into play/are used. Example: Mathew McGinnis AKA Robin Beyond is fair game since futures end falls into the parameters, Cruise is not. </p><p>Appearances: </p><p>🖤 The bare minimum combined across all continuities and existences, as long as that continuity is abiding to the rules above, is 20 with a few exceptions below. </p><p>🖤 If the character was created in 2014 to present (the last 5 years) a minimum of 10 is required if they’ve only appeared in one title. If they were created in that same timespan, but have appear in 3 or more titles, that minimum is now 5. </p><p>🖤 Appearances not in their usual continuity/existence/time period count towards appearances, I.E when Saturn Girl or Bat Lash comes to the present. </p><p>🖤 1st appearances in NCM (non comics media) count as 1st appearances, but that character must have the appearance minimums for their comics appearances. </p><p>Questions/guesses:</p><p>🖤 There is NO limit on the amount of guesses one player can have, but all guesses will count as a question. </p><p>🖤 After a player asks question they can guess immediately, to prevent stealing. If they’re incorrect, the usual 1 hour or 2 questions must happen between their next guess or question. </p><p>🖤 To prevent confusion, questions to the host should be indicated as such. Preferable indications include: ?, Q, Question, Renée Montoya, Vic Sage, ❓,❔,🙋🏾‍♀️,🙋🏾‍♂️ and ✋🏾 followed by a colon or comma, but all indications are allowed. I can’t be responsible for what confusion happens if you don’t follow this rule. </p><p>🖤 Yes, no, and maybe are the available answer options, though slight clues and hints may be added to answer posts I.E definitely not, or enough to kill them, or 😏😈😻. </p>

Jonny Protocol is generally along the same lines and acceptable with a few quibbles. 1. I would agree that characters from other continuities are generally fair, so long as they satisfy the general requirements. I.e. - exist in the database. Appearances across all continuities count, but we’re trying to avoid the choice of characters so esoteric that no one knows then. Certainly, we prefer characters that have existed in mainstream continuity, even if they are from elsewhere. (Eg - The Huntress, Volthoom, Ozymandius, Dr Sivanna) 2. Minimum 5 appearances is too light still. No matter how recent. Again, if there are appearances outside the regular DCU such as film, television, animation - even advertising - that can count as appearances. So limiting appearances to a minimum of ten is like a 60 mph speed limit. You put it at 60 knowing i’m going to drive 75. (Ok, 80) Quizmasters (know any?) are going to push the rules; and better to push the rules from 10 to 6; than from 5 to 1 appearance. A good example, again, is Upside-down man, who has 7 appearances over 3 titles. He’s striking enough to be used in the game even though he doesn’t meet the threshhold of 10 appearances. 3. The point of limiting guesses is simple. Guesses count as Questions. And we don’t want someone to burn questions for no results. Questions belong to everyone until there’s an answer. And really, if someone guesses the character wrong three times; they’re doing something wrong. 4. Jonny says: ”After a player asks question they can guess immediately, to prevent stealing. If they’re incorrect, the usual 1 hour or 2 questions must happen between their next guess or question.” >I think that you’ll find that N8’s Gambit Guess covers this. Here’s the thing. So long as the game continues to be fun, no one is going to begrudge the Quizmaster twerking the rules a bit. Just tell people from the beginning. If you want unlimited guesses in your round (please don’t or I gonna buuuuuurrrn those questions, just to be like that.) just set that out in the guidelines of your OP. Easy.

I’ve made small rules, but still pretty much the same game. I will say though that if anything becomes unlimited then what’s the point of 21 being 21?!?!

And I think we need parameters for ‘striking enough’ because that could mean anything. Jessica Cruz’s sister Sara, Silencer’s son Ben Guest, and Azrael’s worshiper rapture could be considered striking enough depending on who you ask, but still be small time to everyone else!

You got me on unlimited. Wrong term while guesses still count as questions. Is: “No cap” a better term?

And ‘striking enough’ is just something made up. There’s obviously a qualitative difference between the UDM and Cruz’s sister. But what is it? Jeez, I’ve written enough guidelines this week.

Jonny - you’ve run two-thirds of one-half of the rounds 🤓(and Empj; one-third) and while we all want to regulate a certain amount of fairness in choices - you’re putting in the work running the game. Appreciate. If your choices are a little outside the rules, that’s.. well.. probably expected.

I still like the three guess maximum principle. Since guesses count as questions, there should be penalties for using up questions that could have gone into discerning the answer. It would be discourteous to other players. No one wants anyone to be guess-happy. I know the “hour since last question” = “one less question needed for a second guess by the same player” bit still applies and helps prevent over-guessing TOO much. But I still think a cap is more beneficial than no cap.

EMPJOKER'S PROTOCOLS FOR TOMORROW'S GAME:

Universe Rules: Character must be from a main universe, or one that has interacted with a main universe canonically. EXAMPLE: Jesse Custer doesn't work, but Captain Carrot does. Main universe are as follows, EARTH-ONE, EARTH-TWO, NEW EARTH, PRIME EARTH, PRE-ZERO HOUR, POST-ZERO HOUR. Maybe some more, when I think of them.

Appearance Rules: Character must have at least 20 appearances, or in the case of a character created in the last decade, at least equal to the number of years they've been active. (Example: The Upside-Down Man would only need one. But remember, I only read comics that have been in tpb's, so you don't have to worry too much about me picking really new characters.)

Guessing rules: Every player has three guesses. No more, no less. Gambit guesses count as normal guesses.

Questioning Rules: After asking a question, you must do one of the following:

Wait 2 hours

Wait until 2 questions have been asked.

Wait until 1 question has been asked. Then look at your last question. If it is timed at one hour or more, you may ask again.

Flexibility: I reserve the right to break any of my own rules, within reason. I am a loving God, so I will be fair.

This doesn't count as reviving an old thread, right?

</p><p>Given this particular thread was created for players of this game to insert their personal rules so that they could be used later...I think responding to this thread is an exception. However, we don't want to clutter this thread with too many non-protocol comments. Bear that in mind, everyone. Otherwise, everything should be square. </p><p>
