Think about it. He said not officially. That dude's been mentioned a ton!
Yes. 3 left, and if you’ve got one in the chamber you better pull that trigger son!
G. Is it Maseo Yamashiro, Katanas dead Husband?
YES IT IS! And just in time for me to help that kid on the other post out without letting you guys on 🤗!
Now as for the complicated circumstances of his appearances, Maseo’s soul remains to this day (well… I’m not caught up on SSB so I think it’s still to this day) in the Soultaker sword AKA Katana’s Katana. This can be interpreted as he is technically always there and if he’s not Katana is talking to no one like a crazy person instead of talking to him which she does from time to time. I guess actually seeing him counts as appearances to those who’ve edited his page, but even this isn’t a universal parameter for appearances as mentioned characters, characters we only heard, and situations where we don’t know they’re there because we didn’t see them have counted as appearances on the wiki.
Maseo is one of few examples when a male character was created and is still used to expand a female one further, a role that’s usually reversed. Possibly a learning point for this new progressive pro women society and media, if people can ever figure this out.
Woohoo!
But he’s not in the sword. He’s in a pocket dimension that uses the sword as an access point. The sword is a gateway. Katana just simplifies it by describing the scenario as if he’s in the sword. He’s one of hundreds of inhabitants. I’d hardly count those as appearances. Besides, much like many other factors in this game, we use what is catalogued in the wiki. While not all mentions get marked on the wiki, we have what we have, so let’s rely on what we have instead of trying to rationalize not using the stats. That’s how I feel about the whole thing, at least.
I mean, it was revealed that Gavin’s (a Starman) turned into energy, energy that fused with Will Payton, who then himself became Starman. Every appearance of Will is not an appearance of Gavin. Jericho spent (canonically) years inside of Slade Wilson after dying during “Titans Hunt,” But not every Deathstroke appearance counts as a Jericho appearance. Meh, to quote Edna from Incredibles: “I’m not happy, Bob. Not. Happy.”
Part of me feels like this was underhanded, but a larger part of me doesn’t actually care.
Glad you guys had fun.
Edit: If that sounded angry or frustrated, it wasn’t meant to. Life just has me in a state of apathy at the moment.
Nice game, all!
I didn’t know that pocket dimension part, but yes it’s very complicated from the wiki’s explanation. Though if we only used complete wiki info would learn as much that we didn’t know? Like my 1st sentence, this pulled that, info not on his page, out of you. You’ve furthered and proved my purpose here.
It’s an interesting twist on the ‘guidelines’ for appearances. I couldn’t figure out where someone would have more appearances than the wiki indicated, unless it was a missing PE page (why i twigged to Martin Jordan for a bit). Maseo only had 8 appearances; but I am reading some Outsiders and should have had a clue from Katana talking to her sword. And in this game I started talking about flexibility being important. What a 🤡
I think it was a good choice Jonny. Somewhere I came across a character with an ‘unknown’ for a first appearance, and they may pose a similar challenge.
Speaking of The Outsiders, nobody answered my trivia Q; including buddy that asked for them in the OP.
What was the date of the very first issue of The Outsiders without Batman?
Same with most of mine, I guess I’ll just have find out Ollie’s body count the old fashioned way.
