@ABF...
Shadowland was probably the biggest wasted opportunity I've ever seen with Daredevil. Throughout the entire decade, Smith's, Bendis', and Brubaker's runs on the character all built upon eachother, bringing Matt as low as a human being could possibly get. In Smith's eight-issue run, Karen Page dies. With Bendis it's Matt's secret identity is outed (and he just suffers from a complete mental breakdown) and in Brubaker's, he goes to prison (which actually happened at the very end of Bendis' run) and his wife, Milla Donovan, is driven insane.
At the very end of Brubaker's run, the Hand begins to take a role in his life again. In a moment of pure desperation and despair, Matt decides to take the Hand up on their offer and become the new leader of the Hand.
Shadowland was supposed to be the climax of this decade-long build up. Instead, what we got was a rushed, almost incoherent story where Matt doesn't cross the line and murder people or create a ginormous prison for criminals similar to concentration camps because of all the psychological trauma he's endured, he does this because he was possessed... by an ancient demon of evil. Suddenly, a title that had stayed mostly gritty with a few supernatural elements throttles the magic up to eleven and becomes a story about superheroes saving their friend from an ancient demon who wants to throw the world into chaos who's possessed him. It's just out of f*cking nowhere! And the fact that it was as rushed as it was didn't help in the slightest. The whole thing was ridiculous. And to have this right after the Bendis and Brubaker runs?! Some of the best, most complex stories EVER WRITTEN THAT PERMANENTLY CHANGED THE WAY WE SEE DAREDEVIL and we get THIS AS A FOLLOWUP?!?!?!
No.
Just no.
