Now this can easily turn into a flashpoint between people and I don't like to argue unless it's something I'm very passionate about and I hope people don't start fighting each other here. So I'm only going to say my piece and then let others give their opinion. Now Alan Scott becoming gay occurred in Earth 2 as well, but this was a different person in a different time. The Rebirth Alan Scott isn't.
I don't like them repurposing a character just to increase their portfolio of LGBT or people of other races. I don't have anything against it but that's just lazy writing and quite frankly Alan Scott is quite forgotten by much of the modern audience especially those who don't read comics. Why can't they heavily push new LGBT characters into major stardom? The only one I know they seriously pushed is Harley Quinn.
It would have been okay if Scott was a modern hero, but he's not. Distorting a character for the sake of appearing progressive is something not welcome. It's interesting they showed struggles of homosexuals from that time period, but they can do it with someone else. Geoff did it with Carver Coleman in Doomsday Clock and the result was interesting.
If you want to repurpose old characters why don't DC just make Batman and Superman gay? They're far more popular. Because that would be very risky. There is no need for token repurposed characters.
