Does Aquaman actually fly? Or does he need the help of the trident?
I dont think he flies at all, but K may be wrong on this one.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure he needs the trident, as it gives him his most of his powers. However, I would still say that he can "actually fly".
I looked on his Page, there is no flying listed. I only overlooked it though.

Under the section about his Trident, it says: "Flight: By Poseidon's blessings, Arthur could fly unaided."
It seems to be something fairly new to his character, though. Aquaman traditionally doesn’t fly, even with the aid of mystical artifacts. I wish we had someone who’s read all of his recent comics so that they could tell us how often or not often he has used the trident to fly in the current continuity. It certainly doesn’t seem to be something regularly used, though, from what I’ve seen.
When Arthur has been shown to fly, it usually is when he's gained velocity from being in the water then breaks the surface, but that's less about flight and more about "falling with style" if you will.
He can fly because Poseidon blessed him so he could but he hasn’t flew in any of at least the last 15 issues. Kelly Sue Deconnick never used that power and the new writer hasn’t as well
maybe his trident allows for him to control and manipulate water vapour, which could help in float at least
His powers aren't linked to flight so I don't think so.
What do you think?
