Yeah, that's understandable

The first comic book events I've read were Civil War and Secret Wars (2015), but I managed to understand them both because I already did a lot of research. For DC, the first things I've read were JSA: The Golden Age and JLA: The Nail.

Well, most crossovers do require quite a bit of reading prior comics or issues to understand what's going on so that is understandable

Yeah, thats true. But especially with the tie ins there is considerably a lot for this one, and it's good since you get to see different heroes and villains react to the deaths of other characters and past mistakes and trauma but its probably the most confusing event to pick for a newbie since there's just so much lore and continuity that goes into each black lantern showing up. Aside from knowing about how all the other Lanterns came to be, imagine my surprise when I found out that Hal turned evil at one point or that Aquaman and Martian Manhunter were dead.

Oh yeah, speaking of Morrison, what was the underlying message of Arkham Asylum, a serious house on a serious earth?

That Batman is crazy and he belongs in the Asylum?

That just because art is fancy and beautiful doesn't mean it lends itself to sequential art?

I like Morrison a lot. I enjoy their high-concept premises and signature dose of metafiction. I find their work very fun to analyze, I'm actually currently doing an english project over Animal Man #5 which has become one of my favorite issues of all time

The problem people have with Morrison is they assume Viewers Are Geniuses and refuses to dumb down their work in any way. Comics aren't a medium that has to appeal to a mass audience and rake in millions of dollars, so why bother? Well... that is, until you write a Crisis event

They do have a tendency to jump the shark, though. That happened multiple times during their New X-Men run
