Damian Wayne (Robin) is the Scrappy-doo of DC Heroes
Well, I definitely wouldn't call Damian just a "bratty little shit," he's not an entirely horrible character, but he's definitely one of my least favorite Batfamily characters and out of the core 4 Robins, easily the worst. Not to mention he pales in comparison to Jasons character arc, which is the most similar. And he's definitely not like Cass who had a similar childhood. He does have some good moments like in both solo titles or parts of Batman and Robin vol 2, but then there's horrible stories like Rebirth Teen Titans and of course when he first appeared and he actually was just really bad. At least he does show some struggle with his past self and try to change, although unlike Batman he's much more willing to kill if someone he cares for is in danger.
I doubt most people base their annoyance and hatred with Damian because of some image of him beating up Tim Drake on google, but rather a culmination of what has been presented to us since his debut.
His attitude and arrogance in comics and movies personally just makes me want to gouge my eyes out and cut my ears off. Damian’s defining characteristic is being arrogant and edgy simply for no reason in a general sense, He’s pretty much just a rehash of Jason Todd but with a less interesting & driven character development, personality, and writing.
There’s a reason why people loved Jason after he became Red Hood a lot and why people despise Damian even though they share similar traits. @EchoEmpire
I really like him he's gotten better in recent years
I started to like Damian with Batman and Robin and his solo series during New 52. He went through a good redemption arc in those issues. My favorite part is when NoBody says "This R doesn't stand for 'Ruin' [...] This R stands for 'Redemption'".
Yeah, pretty much everything @Venom Snake2001 said, I agree with. I hate Damian, his personality is cancer, being extremely hotheaded, entitled, and cocky. Thinking he’s better than everyone around him. His character also never suffers any consequences for his wrongs, and never apologizes for them either, which really hurts relatability to the character. He also is written terribly a lot of the time, and writers often go out of their way to make the other Batfamily members look bad so Damian would look cooler. He was also given an advantage over Batman’s adopted sons by writing him as blood related, which he constantly brags about to make other Batfamily members feel bad, particularly Tim.
Also I know that the animated movies are alternate universes, but he is legit an spoiled, insufferable brat in the animated stuff. This may be extreme to say but he literally has ruined those movies for me, and DC really wants Damian to be in every animated Batman film. The animated shows also show him legit defeating Deathstroke and Nightwing, which just legit is the most disappointing thing I’ve ever seen. Seeing Deathstroke lose to a little kid just made me cringe and cemented the fact that Damian was a male Mary Sue in the animated movies. Also this is brought up a lot, but it’s a valid complaint, that Damian was absolutely god awful in Injustice, the death of Dick Grayson and his lack of remorse, on top of his shit personality, just made me HATE him in that universe.
WOW! @Ladderman
Hate is such a strong feeling to waste on people we dislike. It's even worse to waste it on a fictional character.
I stopped paying attention when I heard the words "Mary Sue"
^^ I agree with it in most situations in real life unless the person being hated is a terrible human being like a racist or sex offender etc.
But with fictional characters it’s a normal reaction to do especially if you dislike a character so much
Guess I’ve never met a person I truly hate, so I wouldn’t know true hatred. But your right, hate might be an overreaction, I just can’t stand the character. This is me before Damian arrives in a comic:
Me after Damian arrives:
Also good for you, @EchoEmpire , literally no one asked.
What do you think?
