Living outside of the US, I don't even know what "the American Way" is. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about the U.S.A. is war. So this new motto ("a better tomorrow") feels more fitting. After all, he is generally called the "Man of Tomorrow."
As someone that’s not from the U.S the American Way to me sounds like Junk Food, War, Guns, Riots, Political discourse, Film industry scandals/controversies and Mass Shootings.
I don't have a clue what it is either, but probably involves "liberating" everyone else and forcing everyone into freedom to not be forced into things.
The whole point of Superman's creation is that he is the personification of what Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster (two descendants ofJewish immigrants) felt when they came to the states, they felt alien literally speaking, but they wanted to give their best for this new home, and that is what Superman is all about. That is what the American way is.
Additionally. Of course no nation nor man is perfect, that is another point of Superman's character he is ment to inspire us to become the best we can be. That is why he is The Superman. It's literally all in the name.
Given all the stories about Superman craving a connection to Kryptonian culture and not being content with being "only" American I think the new motto makes far more sense than the old. It fits with the literal Man of Tomorrow.
