Shazam. In my opinion, Captain Marvel is really out of place.

He was originally called Captain Thunder, a combination of his power and "Captain Billy" Fawcett. But they couldn't trademark it. So they renamed him "Captain Marvelous", but it didn't fit in the existing unpublished art so they shortened it.

Captain Marvel. Shazam just sounds weird as a superhero name. Great for movie and comic titles, but not as a superhero name.

What if someone asks what his superhero name is? Does he have to write it on a piece of paper or play charades. The thing that really angers me is the copyright issue, Billy was the first Captain Marvel and I feel dc and marvel are afraid to have a character each with the same name, as if anyone who’s even a little bit interested in superheroes won’t already understand the difference.

It's a legal thing.

DC can't use the name Captain Marvel on covers for copyright issues. But they can use it inside the issues.

Neither have ever really felt fitting in my eyes. Shazam because well it’s the wizards name and it isn’t like he can say it out loud. As for Captain Marvel it just feels irrelevant.
