That Captain Marvel one shot did what I believe other modern age Shazam titles by DC have failed to do; it captured the very essence of his earlier Marvel family adventures / whiz comics titles. The sheer joy and sometimes silliness that was in those earlier comics was encompassed so perfectly in those 40 pages that it made me wish to once again read those comics of a time when Billy was a pure hearted and genuinely good kid and Captain Marvel a confident and self assured hero who you could actually rely on, of a time when the supporting cast and charaters were also littered with colourful and varying personalities instead of being the alternate coloured versions of the same character, of a time when 'Captain Marvel' was the hero of the book instead of Black Adam who writers try to replace him with accompanied by his many redemption arcs.
