The source material for this is still fairly new so it can work in thier favour because "Naomi" doesn't have that much lore surrounding her yet. But I'm still not that excited about this show.
I'm just curious how they'll handle it. 🤷♂️
I'm going to say what I said when I first saw this announced. Why is this already a show? Not that I don't think it could be someday, it's just that the story has so little written that it feels like they have enough for two episodes, maybe four if you count the times Bendis put her in his other books. It feels like right now, there's nothing to make a show out of.
I mean, Naomi had six issues. If they make it like 1 issue = 1 episode, it may work.
But I agree it's very early for that adaptation.
^^But like I said before, that can also help them, since their is basically next to nothing in terms of background and story for Naomi the show can do whatever it wants without fans saying that it isn't comic accurate. This can really help them but still I'm not too sure that I will be watching this show.
All I ask is that they don’t make the stories so race specific 🤞🏾
Just follow the story from the comics, let Ava do her little Wrinkle in Time vibes, don’t put anything with the f***ing police, let Naomi be cool, soft, warm heroine and don’t cw it up. Even when you’ve run out of source material just keep it light, have her look cool, just make her a normal heroine. And tone it back maybe two notches on the drama, if it’s silly and even whimsical I’d be happy with that.
Right. I respect the social commentary on race that other CW shows starring people of color have used, but I definitely see the argument that leaving those subjects alone helps normalize diversity. By using a “This is a story starring someone of color, and that’s that” approach, the show-runners would be illustrating that diversity can be the norm and that their show isn’t an “exception of the rule,” as can potentially be felt from other works of media. The works that touch on race are important, but we need some POC lead characters who get to simply exist and be seen without labels being so explicitly expressed.
With so little source material, the show will probably influence the comic books instead of the other way around in this case.
I´m just going to say it, the reason this is a show is because it´s about a African-American WOMAN, we live in a age of feminism in TV and this is not being sexist or anything, don´t believe me look it up
I will watch the premiere, just because is DC. But I'm going in with really low expectations. The trailer didn't get me. Who knows? I may be pleasantly surprised. If the show is good I hope they could bring in characters from now ended shows (Black Lightning, Supergirl, Arrow).
What do you think?
