Wally. Hes a very interesting Flash. Wish there was more of him in TV shows and movies.
Wally west. He was the one I saw the most growing up and he’s such an interesting character. Plus his suit’s cool as hell.
But i do also enjoy seeing Jay Garrick too. Hes a very interesting character and has a pretty cool suit imo.
Jay’s helmet looks cool as hell I’ll admit
Yessir. And the way he could just throw it and have it come back to him is kinda bad ass. It's like a Speed Force Boomerang 💀
Wally West for me, and I’ve read every Flash run post CoIE. I love his development as a character. One of the few characters that was allowed to grow and change while a lot of others maintained a strict status quo.
Not really a Flash reader, but I've read enough to decisively say Wally. Just... something about former kid heroes successfully taking over a mantle after watching them grow up over so many years and stories... so wonderful, so satisfying.
He also earns extra points for surviving the hellpit that is the treatment of his gen in the 21st century LOL
Barry
Tied between Jay and Barry for me
Wally (though Jay is a close second and they all have an important role to play in the mythos).
Part of it is the obvious: while I grew up aware of Barry, Wally was the Flash in comics when I started reading them a lot.
Part of it is the fact that I feel like, after Flashpoint, Barry was steadily granted more and more of the things that made Wally unique as the Flash, which I always found unfortunate. Barry had his own personality, skills, abilities, experiences, relationships, etc, without needing to take from Wally. Plus, he was a regular guy with flaws and habits and things to overcome that I got to experience alongside him for years.
And part of it was that Wally was something unique that DC had that just doesn’t happen in comics. He was the sidekick who had close ties to his mentor. His mentor was the idealistic hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in a well written, important, massive story that will never go out of print. He started off his career as the Flash not feeling worthy and having a bumpy road to run. He grew into more and more of a hero, more and more of a man, someone who was worthy of the legacy. Over time, the Justice League fully accepted him as not-just-a-substitute, but as The Flash, worthy as anyone else at the table, and a worthy heir to Barry’s legacy.
While I’ve enjoyed some of the returned-Barry stories, and would have wanted people to write more for him, whether set in the past, or after him coming back… it feels like they kind of tossed away something totally unique to comics: a protege who earned his place among legends, and stuck with it. Where else was that done where it hadn’t been an obviously temporary, or done poorly, or whatever? Ironically, DC is working on promoting a bunch of legacy characters and protégés as we speak, but who knows if any are intended to be more-or-less permanent.
What do you think?
