Hmm, I dunno. What you were saying before was a little reductionist... It's why I don't really like the word "representation", it gives off the wrong idea; unless I'm writing it myself, nothing can "represent" me and I don't expect it to. Sure, people like to relate, everyone does, sometimes! And when you never really get to, you may come off as unnecessarily desperate to people who have never really lacked it.
But the desire for diversity in stories is so much more nuanced than "make this like me"... it's more about hearing a wider variety of stories, seeing a wider variety of things. You can get those by tapping into experience and knowledge of a wide variety of people, both characters and creatives.
Creativity spans so much further than what usually gets the spotlight. Deities can be portrayed differently from Greek gods (not all pantheons are horny and ignorant LOL), there can be fun stories outside of America, etc. etc.. Why would that not extend to the ethnicity and culture of a character, and how their background informs their stories? How their culture might inform their design? How their skin color affects color design?
Sounds like how Bethany Morrow once described her books and themes she wanted to portray in them.
Maybe you sistas have a deeper connection with this than I do, or maybe it’s just more specific.
Nubia's cool but if I were to choose who should become the next wonder woman then I would have picked between either Cassie or Yara.
I’m neutral. All of them could work as WW. Including Donna who y’all just completed ignored lol.
Last year would have been the perfect opportunity to let Cassie and Donna step up to the plate together while Diana was gone, instead of Hippolyta for whatever reason (or at least in addition to her). Can't believe that big ol' anniversary came and went, and they didn't get to do anything LOL
I'm glad to see there feelings didn't reflect the fandom
Probably my ideal successor to Diana atm lol
I never knew about Nubia until last year February. She's fine but there's nothing memorable about her.
^Yeah, I don't want to dismiss her or anything. I believe Nubia has great potential for great stories. Hopefully they'll be writers that can showcase that
Just to be clear I like her
What do you think?
