Rogol zaar's adition was definitely an unnecessary one. He was basically doomsday but smart. Also, krypton being destroyed by zaar instead of dying of causes brought on by the kryptonians themselves kind of takes from the narrative.
Before, krypton was destroyed because of it's people's negligence and misuse of its resources. It told a great cautionary tale for all ''real people" to follow and learn from since we are pretty much on the same path. (We don't even have any rockets to save even one of our own) But now the narrative is the simple monster destroyed the world story, kind of a downgrade if you ask me.
