Yeah? I think I'll make do without those special issues. As long as everything is coherent to me, then I'll be fine
Well they’re not special issues they’re random issues.
Yes, I would like that. To be honest, I'm not really a big fan of that erra. I'm still in the process of reading through it because it's superman and of course I'm gonna read it whether I like it or not but still...
What don’t you like about it? Curious, because I haven’t read it and want to.
It's just very different from the superman stories I'm used too. This erra essentially started right after the first crisis and superman was very heavily depowered during that time, he's still strong but it just doesn't look like that he is the strongest anymore. The quality of the stories is also all over the place and the fixation that they had during that time to make superman more human than kryptonian also hurts the overall feel a little bit. Not to mention, they had to basically push out new superman comics every week so they were a little low on ideas and it is quite evident. Well, to sum it up- not all of it is bad but not all of it is good either and very few stories ever reach the point to be called great.
Yes. I got a lot of Superman comics from that era for cheap at auction months ago, and I still haven't read them because they're all interlinked. It sucks.
I agree with you. I have no time for writing a long essay (maybe later), but Post-Crisis Superman feels to me less complex and less interesting than his predecessor, and his world and lore also feel duller.
Of course, there were good stories back then... right like most of stories were mediocre or even bad. You'll find this is true for every decade.
Regardless, a Triangle Era Superman Omnibus would be nifty and convenient for his fans. Sadly, I don't think DC will publish such a collection for the foreseaable future. DC's 90's trades (Kyle Rayner's stories, Peter David's Supergirl...) were cancelled when they flopped, DC cut the number of trades down several years ago, Superman's titles are mid-sellers at best, and they did not even got to collecting the whole Golden Age... So, DC collecting 90's Superman in large, expensive volumes? I don't see it happening.
The quality in Superman titles started to dip slowly after the triangle era started. However, the continuity between the characters made it more satisfying (at least for me) than other multi-title characters like Batman (pre-Knightfall) during that era.
Thank you all for the input.
Triangle Era in omnibus format sounds great, especially since the only part of that era that's collected is the 1992/1993 stuff relating to the Death and Return of Superman. However, logicitcally it would be at least 10 omni uses, with the best way to do it being one year per omnibus, and I don't think there's enough interest to reprint all of that in omnibus format. DC should absolutely consider doing it though
