I love it when a writer breaks down the idea of what superman means and who exactly he is. When reading American Alien it is not only a master class in how to write superman, but it also goes out of its way to make Clark more human to the audience and bring these ideas of superheroes into a contemporary society. I haven’t seen a book like this where it breaks down the idea of what superman is and what that idea means to people in a way that this book accomplishes. There are other amazing superman stories that are 100% must reads, but this will always hold a special place in my heart for helping me truly understand what superman is.
