The Burton films are my childhood. Not just Batman, but all his early films. The dark fantasy always spoke to me from a young age. As much as I love DeVito’s Penguin and the costume, Burgess Meredith was the best character in the ‘66 Batman series. His design is plucked right from comic pages and his mannerisms are iconic to the character. I also watched the ‘66 Batman series as a kid but it never felt like Batman after Burton or BTAS. It was too bright and campy for me, the kind of thing Burton would satirise and subvert. The only thing that I think was perfect about that show was the Penguin. I give my vote to the Burgess Meredith design. (If I voted in polls, that is.)
