Why does DC have so many crisises?

They reboot things for new readers to easily jump in

Crisis on Infinite Earths (note that the word isn’t “Infinity”) was the first major event. No comic company has done anything even remotely like it. Unfortunately, DC’s plan for the unified history had some plot holes in certain places, so the event called Zero Hour was designed to help fix those plot holes by giving writers an excuse to incorporate a few extra retcons and whatnot.

Another element of it all is that Crisis on Infinite Earths consolidated the alternate universes into one. Zero Hour consolidated all the alternate timelines / possible futures so that we didn’t have so many temporal anomalies.

All crises, though, end up not being perfect, which is why they lead to some side effects like Lady Blackhawk being brought to the present.

Jesse Quick is a separate character entirely. During the Golden Age (the time period where DC produced comics from the late ‘30s to the mid-‘50s), DC had a couple of superheroes named Johnny Quick (a speedster who can fly as well as run) and Liberty Belle (who had superhuman strength). The two married, and in the 1990s, DC revealed that they had a daughter named Jesse who inherited powers from both of her parents. So, she’s a speedster, but she can also access superhuman strength. Jesse Quick, in her 20s at the time, joined the Titans and later joined the modern iteration of the Justice Society of America and then later still joined the Justice League of America.

Just out of curiosity, have you read all of Johnny Quick's appearances, Nate?

I know that you read every appearance of every character that has been a Teen Titan, so I wonder if you read also her father's stuff.

Johnny Quick had Mort Meskin working on him for a considerable period. That artist made wonderful art, some of the best.

I haven’t read Johnny’s stories just yet, @FraBig but I’ve made a list of his appearances in order for myself so that I can get through them whenever I finally take that plunge. I’m prioritizing Johnny Thunder, though, since Yz/Johnny Thunderbolt is Jakeem Thunder’s partner and since Jakeem is a Titan. I’ll also want to read more appearances by Jade now that she’s been given retroactive membership to the Titans team (in an undisclosed roster). So that’ll eventually lead me to Alan Scott comics.

Zero Hour is not where Hal died. That's when he adopted the name Parallax for the first time, but he was still alive after the crisis. Hal died later on in The Final Night, and later became the Spectre. And even later still, he was resurrected in GL: Rebirth.
