First of all, why are you commenting on a post you don’t have the courtesy of reading then give a dismissive response with no personal rationale implying that it’s the only answer that matters and move on? Just leave the human alone.

Secondly, it is redundant to start a response with “first of all” if you don’t have anything further to say. You know what I’m talking about.

This is an open discussion board. We endeavour to emphasise the discussion part. It’s all very easy to give an opinion but they are meaningless without an attempt to justify them. If you intend to interject or comment don’t be surprised by the times you are called out for it. Something to think on.

Uhhh…but superman isn’t starting the DCU. It was already started with Creature Commandos

Superman was the first comic book Superhero. He defined the genre and he defined DC right from the start. So yes I think it is right. You must start the DCU with at one of the Trinity either Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman. Ideally you should start with three movies focusing on these three (or if you want to play around a bit a few other Golden Age or Platinum Age characters can be tossed around as well but they are unlikely to be).

Superman is where superhero’s started it is where the DCU should start.

@TheStorrman but not many people are going to watch that show which is only on a streaming service compared to a major movie I also assume that the original poster also means first movie and even if not I will be the first for the majority of the audience even if it is not the literal first.

I don't think it's a good idea. There have already been a million movies about Superman and his rip-off characters so that it's not as interesting anymore and to make more is just ridiculous.

Well, Superman actually only has 10 solo live action films, counting the upcoming film and the old serials (11 technically if you also wanna include the Donner Cut of Superman II)

By comparison, Spider-Man has 8 live action films

Yes, cause I feel you should start with a heavy hitter hero like him. Just like how the MCU started with Iron Man

Alternatively, who else do you start the universe with?

A non-household name like Hawkgirl or Metamorpho are cool but likely won't pull in people looking a big popcorn summer blockbuster. It needs to be at least one of the big 7, likely one of the Trinity, and if we're really being honest, Wonder Woman is out as well. Batman is huge, but I don't think he has quite the level of notoriety we think he does in our internet/comic/nerd fandom cocoon. Will Batman draw out the teen boys and edgelord nerds? For sure. But will he draw in the families with little kids and 20 somethings out for a non-ironic date night? Maybe but maybe not. To me, Superman has a safe nostalgic feeling to him that I'm not as sure Batman does. Also, if either character has been burnt out to a general audience, I'd lean more towards Batman again here.

Obviously these are all just based on vibes but I really think Superman is the only choice here. And if they do a good job, they can unlock a whole lot more of DC's library.
