There has to be more information about Amethyst Princess of Gemworld.
What did you think about it?
It was very wholesome and funny, imo. I think the fans of Amethyst of all ages will likely enjoy it. I certainly did.
So I've just finished up #1-5 and await #6 next month (or November perhaps?), but I'm not all that comfortable with the storyline. I grew up obsessing about Princess Amethyst, reading Vols 1/2 issues #1-12/16 over and over again, drawing and dreaming about the life of a Gemworld princess. I still have those worn out comics (and drawings, if I'm honest) after so many years.
I get that writers crave and achieve change through creativity and with time, and the influence to readers can either turn the tide of a comic series or still the waters. But I'm just not sold here. I really appreciate that Amy Reeder has taken on the series, with her own love of Amethyst, but the gem shattering "LIE" held deep within House Amethyst is just too much for me following that last issue. I feel all the romance and pride taken away from so much that I held onto in childhood, alliances shattered, love entirely departed. There was always much turmoil in the Gemworld, but there was always the stoic presence of House Amethyst to lean on. Amy Winston originally moved between Earth and the Gemworld as girl to woman, then back again. Completely graceful. But here, she seems a complete teenage brat in both worlds. Visually, I think Amy Reeders vision through illustration is quite beautiful, she nails gemlife and colours totally. Conversely, I feel that Amethyst's mouth is held open and contorted over far too many panels, but if that's how you show expression, rage, grief, as much as joy and triumph - so be it.
Anyway I wait on #6, quite nervously, as Amethyst, Phoss and Maxixe rally to face Opal. Don't go breaking my heart Amy (both)!
