Not gonna lie, I had high hopes for Baz back in the day, this was until he disappointed me by listening to Batman of all people. Baz had a gun as a back up in case the ring stopped working, which has happened to plenty of Lanterns, it even saved him from Sinestro. Then Batman told him to get rid of the gun and he listened, I read the issue and it felt really forced. Where was Batman when the ring failed? nowhere to be seen, it was the gun that saved Baz and yet he listened to Batman because he's DC's golden boy. I wondered at that moment: "how somebody with such a weak will got the ring?" , all it took was some weak arguments from Batman to shake Simon's believes, at that moment Baz went from one of my favorites to the low end of my list. Haven't read much from Baz after that.
Then there's my second issue, all Green Lanterns are American, that makes zero sense. If they wanted "diversity" why not make Simon Lebanese instead of Lebanese-American?, Why not make Jessica Cruz Mexican, Honduran, Guatemalan, or whatever ancestry she has instead of American? You have a Galaxy police that for some reason only picks people from the United states. You have at least 7 human Green Lanterns from the main universe and all of them are American. Now, I'm a proud American myself but this don't make sense. I feel like they do this for "diversity points" which I find annoying, being Hispanic myself. That conversation Jessica and Baz had in space about being "brown" was unnecessary and senseless. You are now part of a Police force that has hundreds of different Alien species and your conversation is about being brown? seriously? I will leave you with a quote I love:
“People who claim that they're evil are usually no worse than the rest of us... It's people who claim that they're good, or any way better than the rest of us, that you have to be wary of.”
Anyway, if you read through all that, what are your thoughts?
I was reading Simon Baz’s page and it says that he witnessed 9/11 at the age of 10, so we know the event happened in the DC Universe. And seeing as multiple superheroes exist in the DCU, couldn’t one of them have stopped the whole thing from happening?
