So I’m watching “Young Justice” for the first time, I’m halfway through the 3rd season, and I’ve been wondering, what universe is it set in? It came out shortly after JLU, so is it part of the DCAU? Reason why I’m asking is because there are parts where it makes me think it’s part of the DCAU, but the opening credits of Season 3 are the same opening credits of the DCAMU. So is it part of DCAU, DCAMU, or is it in its own universe by itself?

“Apocalypse” is such an awesome movie. Don’t get me wrong “Public Enemies” is also really good, but there’s just something about watching an unrestrained Superman and Supergirl tear into Darkseid.
@Scar&Hyenas While I typically agree with you, sometimes you gotta make way for the future. Although picturing the dude from “Glee” as the voice of Superman, even a young Superman, is still a little difficult for me.
I just watched it the other day. While it hasn’t been like the most recent Superman DCAU movies, it wasn’t bad. It was better than some, worse than others. I didn’t like how it didn’t follow the “traditional” Superman story, and I didn’t like the Parasite in it (I prefer the Superman Animated Series and JL/JLU Parasite). But I loved Lobo in it (or rather how Ryan Hurst voiced him), and love Alexandra Daddario as Lois Lane. I even thought Zachary Quinto did an alright Lex. Overall I give it a C+ to a B.
I have always kicked myself for never watching any of the episodes, but after reading the comments, I guess I’m glad I didn’t. I figured it was going to be a “Smallville but for Batman”, but had hope because it was on Fox and not on the CW (which turns every show into an MTV teen soap opera it seems like). I heard the Jim Gordon character was great, but when I heard they had Batman villains without Batman, I passed.
I didn’t like what they did with Aqualad throughout the series. First season he was awesome, easily the strongest of the characters and the stability of the characters. Second season he flipped and was a bad guy bc someone let his girlfriend died, but he was really a good guy undercover. Alright, unlikely, but ok.

Third season is where they lost me. So now he’s not only “Aquaman” instead of “Aqualad”, but he’s also co-leader of the JL (but not really because he still takes orders from Nightwing it seems like), and then he became gay? Yeah not so much. I have nothing against gay people, but don’t change a character that flipped sides because of his dead girlfriend, and then make him gay the next season. The third season was the worst IMO and I’m glad they didn’t continue along that line.
I just watched it recently as well and I’ll admit, it is a bit confusing. The first episode of season two skips ahead 5 years, and the first episode of season 3 skips ahead 2 more years. So a total of almost 8 years goes by in the 3 seasons of YJ.
And the Titans already have two DCAMU movies.
This was a really tough choice between Dr. Fate and the GL’s. I eventually chose the GL’s because I REALLY want to see “Blackest Night” on screen (and no, the GL Animated Series doesn’t count). While I love how powerful Fate is, they haven’t introduced him at all in the DCAMU, and I think they’ve covered enough magic in the DCAMU between JLD, TT vs JL, and JLD: AW.
Oh and did anyone catch in S3, one of the final episodes, when Aqualad brought that new aquatic meta girl to Atlantis, Aqualad called Aquaman “King Orm”. Last time I checked, Oceanmaster was Orm and Aquaman was Arthur...
@ScavengerOne i think you hit the nail on the head with your comment about the second half of the 3rd season being not up to par. I guess it was just “whelmed” as they say in the show lol.
I guess all in all, I was expecting more of the DCAMU’s Teen Titans movies instead of what we got. On the flip side, I LOVED Nightwing’s character in it. While I disagree with him and Barbara getting together (in every other version I’ve seen, he and Starfire get together), I liked how he assumed the leadership role with the team. I guess Nightwing to “The Team” is like Batman to the JL.
Another thing I didn’t like about it was Miss Martian’s brother. In every other version, Ma’alefa’ak was the bad guy of Martian Manhunter, was a lot more dangerous, and had a bigger storyline. You’d think that if they brought him into YJ, they would have made him part of The Light or something.
I do want to give huge props to Nolan North. I know the guy is talented, I mean he does hundreds of voices for all sorts of characters, but what he did with Superman/Superboy was truly impressive. The only thing I can compare it to is Dee Bradley Baker and what he did with all the different clone troopers’ voices in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” It was truly impressive.

So I just finished “Young Justice”, and I have to admit, while it wasn’t bad, I don’t think it was “good” either. What I mean by that is I was hoping for something more like the DCAU or DCAMU, and it wasn’t like either and was a huge let down. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but the whole “metagene” storyline, Vandal Savage working with Darkseid, Granny Goodness being two separate people but not really, all a little too much off the reservation for my tastes. And what’s with the whole romance arc? I know the DC has had its fair share of romances, but this is a kid show. Superboy and Miss Martian, Artemis and Kid Flash, and Aqualad being gay? I don’t have a problem with anyone being gay, but this is supposed to be a kids show.
I guess my biggest problem is how far off the reservation they went. Aqualad became Aquaman and was leader of the JL, then Black Lightning became leader of the JL, Batman (sort of) answering to Nightwing, Superboy not having all of Superman’s powers, etc. I will fully admit I haven’t read any of the comics since I was a kid, but come on. None of that had ever been in anything I’ve ever seen or read.

As far as the DCAMU ending, it’s true that “JLD: AW” was the end of the DCAMU, but A) they did leave it on a cliffhanger (spoiler alert: when Flash started running possibly to create another Flashpoint) and B) some of the writers and producers have talked about doing another movie.
I for one REALLY hope they do more DCAMU movies. They’re some of my favorites, and I love how they’re in sync with each other.
As for the post about “being too old to watch the DCAU shows” (apologizes, I forget who posted that), I turn 37 next month and I still watch them. It’s one thing I’ve been trying to explain to my wife for years, you’re never too old to be a nerd. In fact, the older you get, I think the nerdier you get. Now we have the money to embrace our nerdiness lol.

@Fatebuoy yeah I have to admit, it was great seeing Superman and Darkseid go at it in the animated Superman show and the JL shows. My favorite line out of all of them is in the last episode of JLU when Superman tells Darkseid, “But you can take it, can’t you big man. It’s time to show you how powerful I really am.”
@Phil Peterson tell that time my body as I get hurt somehow just by getting out of bed in the morning lol.
While I haven’t really seen it very much, what I have seen of the “Teen Titans” TV show, I just find annoying. It’s probably because I’m in my 30’s and the TT show is based for kids.
Nightwing without a doubt. I just started watching “Young Justice”, and while I’m only halfway through season 2, it’s clear that he’s the leader and the future of the JL.
While I like the Apocalypse Darkseid a lot, the DCAMU is just more terrifying. He just seems stronger, scarier, thinks more globally, or world conquering, and not just going after Superman more invincible (if that makes any sense). His voice also, especially in “War” was just bone chilling.
I find them both equally annoying.
So I just watch “JL Dark Apokolips War” today. All I have to say is WOW. Totally not what I was expecting. Man was it good! I really thought that Batman would use the Mobius Chair to go back and change everything. Plus I LOVED Batman’s suit. It was almost Batman Beyond’s suit.
I know it’s supposed to be the last DCAMU movie, but man I hope they do another one. Maybe one explaining how Flash fixed the timeline with his second flashpoint and maybe bring in the League of Doom (since “Justice League: Doom” isn’t part of the DCAMU”).
