Hello everyone. I just wanted to share my opinion and perhaps start a discussion about what we feel is the ending the original members of the JLA deserve, for this purpose i am counting the Original new earth line up of: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Barry Allen, Hal Jordan, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and ( because i had a good idea of what i wanted for him) Green Arrow.
Before i share my ideas i would like to note that i'm not well caught up on the current storylines and comics, just in case anything i mention wouldn't work according to the most recent events. Let's Begin.
GREEN LANTERN: A.K.A. HAL JORDAN
In short Hal dies killing the guardians of the universe, uniting all the corps and is welcomed back to heaven this time for a permanent stay.
In Long -
I chose to start with Hal because I feel that him being the sacrificial hero he is Hal would be the first of the core 8 to pass. For his final story i would have him around his mid 40's, still regarded as the greatest of all the green lanterns. Hal is reaching his retirement years but is still persistent in helping life forms all across the universe, however as is the way, the Guardians of the universe alongside some other not well known characters but still significant members of the GL corps put in place one final plan establish their corrupt ideal of order across the universe. In this story the Green Lanterns are disowned by the guardians and now all turn to Hal as their leader. Hal comes up with a plan to eliminate the guardians and end their immortal reign, and in doing so will gather the other six lantern corps (not including white and black) and rather them against the guardians. We must remember here that is arguably the guardians fault for the existence of the separate corps, notably the orange, red, indigo and yellow corps. Also Hal has already in some way befriended the leader of each corps thus i believe it makes sense that he would be able to unite them. Back to the story, to eliminate the guardians and stop their plan Hal decides that he must also extinguish the light of the green lantern corps. After one heck of a final battle, the corps of love, anger, fear, hope, greed and compassion will pave the way for Hal to reach the central power core of the green lanterns. There Hal exerts all his will and in a moment parallel to his becoming of parallax Hal sacrifices himself to explode the core and bring the guardians down with it. From here there are two perspectives: First we see the aftermath of the explosion killing the guardians and suddenly all of the rings of every lanterns corps seemingly fail and flicker out. Everyone thinks they are about to die stuck in space without a power ring, some ok to die saving the universe, others not so much. Then all of the remaining six entities do a cool thing and from that cool thing appears ion, the entity of will power reborn, the entities then merge into one another and form a rainbow entity thing. At that moment a new ring appears on everyone's fingers that pulses between the whole emotional spectrum, everyone is saved and the corps unite as one. Perspective 2 then sees Hal waking in heaven, he is greeted with a warm welcome and someone, perhaps the Spectre makes a joke 'i see you've returned again Hal'.
GREEN ARROW
In short Ollie will continue heroing into his 50's until the daughter he has with Black Canary dies one night patrolling with him. Her boyfriend will convince a grieving Green arrow to retire and pass the mantle onto himself. Ollie is persuaded and is able to retire to live in a remote valley with Dinah.
For Ollie I decided to give him a peaceful and happy retirement with his love, Dinah / Black Canary where they can grow old without disruption. His story involves the couple having a daughter. She will grow up and be trained as Ollie's sidekick much like Speedy, and will become a very capable woman.
As a young woman she will eventually fall in love with a guy around her age. Unfortunately He and Ollie won't get along very well no matter how much the daughter asks them too as Ollie is very stubborn. The boyfriend will eventually be made aware of the daughters (sorry for no names) identity along side Ollie's and will be privately trained by her into a competent bowsman. On a quiet when Ollie and his Daughter are out patrolling they will be separated and when Ollie finds his daughter again she will be dead. By this point Ollie should be 50+ years old. With his loss Ollie will become more sad than he already is and in his old age it is clear he should retire, however he will not do so without anyone competent enough to fill his shoes. The boyfriend will constantly try to have Ollie retire to no avail. Not long after the daughters death, no more than a year of grieving, The boyfriend will come to Ollie on patrol one night and show the bowmanship he learned from Ollie's daughter and in hope to have Ollie finally retire. Ollie will be impressed and train him a little more before eventually handing off the mantle to the new green arrow ( i am in debate whether or not he should be prime earth connor hawke, however only related through the daughter). Ollie and Dinah will then proceed to retire to a very remote valley where they will live out their elder years together without disruption.
BATMAN
In short an old batman looks to realize the joker is the last of his enemies still around. In the middle of a heist the joker falls to his death and a secretive funeral is arranged. Batman hears of the funeral and attends it to the bewilder of all jokers goons over the years and harley quinn. Batman then removes his cape and cowl at the Jokers grave in front of Harley Quinn. In his later years, Bruce Wayne as Mayor practically eliminates major crime in Gotham and in official retirement, with Alfred already dead, he visits Green Arrow's remote retirement home to and shares his friends last days. Some years later with a slip of a cane Bruce Wayne dies in his Manor in the middle of the night.
There much discussion as to how the batman will die but his is my suggestion.
Not too long after news of Green Arrow's retirement, Bruce will look around his city of Gotham to find that all his major villains have either died or retired from crime, all but one, The Joker. However with the joker still around batman knows he can not hang up the cape and cowl just yet. At this point the joker should be some years older than batman who himself is around 60, and has somewhat becomes less extravagant than his years prior, he and Harley have very much become seasoned villains and have no need for the extreme looney antics anymore. Some years past batman's realization of near accomplishment and the Joker dies attempting a large skill heist by something as petty as a fall and snap of the neck. Batman hears of the Jokers death and feels it necessary to show to his funeral. It isn't much, just a barely put together assemblage of a venue hidden underground, however the room is at least half full of Jokers Goons and other dependents. Harley Quinn is also there. Batman enters and everyone stands ready for a fight, but he just walks down the aisles and takes a seat across from Harley, who is alone on the front row. Batman offers himself as one of the men to carry the Jokers coffin to his grave where the ceremony comes to an end and all the goons slowly leave. Batman sits on the freshly buried grave of his past arch enemy, but he does not cry one tear. Instead he kneels by the tombstone and with only Harley witness, removes his cape and cowl placing them gently on Jokers Grave. He then turns to Harley and gives a small smile of joy only batman could give. In his years remaining Bruce Wayne will successfully run and become Mayor of Gotham and by his final term and made the city nearly void of any major crimes. Have achieved his life goal Bruce retires to his manor, now alone for all his sidekicks have left elsewhere to continue his legacy and Alfred having passed not long ago. In one final venture Bruce travels with the new Green Arrow to Oliver Queens remote home, Dinah has also passed away and Ollie is only the verge of a peaceful death. Bruce and Ollie together share their memories with the new green arrow and stay until Ollie meets his end, allowing Ollie a proper burial. Another jump of a few years and a very old Bruce Wayne is sitting in a chair in his manor, reflecting on how he became Batman, barely gripping onto a bat-cane a final page has the man lose grip of his cane and dies right there in his chair.
Barry Allen
Barry is the flash into his 70's. He decides to retire after one final race with fastest people he knows. During the race Barry gives it his all and merges into the speedforce, he tries to outrun the black racer but it just passes through him. Barry slows to a walk in the speed force when he finds a room hidden in the speed force where he can finally rest and live on until the speed force is destroyed at the collapse of the multiverse.
For Barry I felt as though he would serve a relatively long hero career before he dies however i felt it logical that as he was the first person to access the speed force his death would result in its destruction, however it's possible destroying the speed force could ruin the multiverse so this is the ending i decide for him.
Barry Allen still runs as the flash into his 70's by which time, Hal had died and Ollie and Bruce had both retired. He had lived a good life and was very much happy to retire, this would be alone as iris would have died of something like cancer just the year before. Things had also been worked out in regards with Professor Zoom, he won't have turned good but he would have gone off to someplace where he was no longer a threat. For his official retirement however Barry asked for some close speedsters, i.e. Wally and Bart, and superman and family to have a private race. The group of the fastest people on the planet all lined up at the start mark and planned a sufficient race course before returning to finish the race. They were off all of them having the time of their life each one pushing each other to go faster than the others. Barry took the lead, i smile was on his face, continuing the race Barry pushes himself to his absolute limit going as fast as he can. The world begins to fade around him all he can see now is the speed force. To the others, Barry had just merged into the speed force and could no longer be seen. They race stops as the group look at each other for what just happened. Superman smiles and assures everyone that Barry can final rest now. Back in the speed force Barry looks behind him to see the black racer quickly approaching, he tries to speed up but he can't. Death comes near, Barry closes his eyes and succumbs to his end. As he does so however he feels something enter and exit his body, he opens his eyes and sees the black racer run off in front of him, passing him by. Barry slows to a walk but is amazed to find he's still in the speed force. He continues walking forward when he hits something solid. He reaches out and opens a door. Inside is a room, a house complete with all features. Barry takes a seat and breathes. He has become infused with the speed force and will continue existing inside it , in this room until the multiverse inevitably collapses. In his room there is a window and from it Barry can view the whole multiverse as revolves around it.
AQUAMAN
Unfortunately i don't have too much on Aquaman, in my mind he has gone through enouhg during his reigns as king of Atlantis. So to me it is fitting that Aquaman will continue being Aquaman and king of atlantis for many years past the death of his human friends (not sure about the lifespan of atlanteans), until he eventually finds a young man deserving of being bestowed prince. At which point Orin may pass on the throne to a new Aquaman and live his life until death may take him.
MARTIAN MANHUNTER
Martian Manhunter will live a long life in which he oversees the peaceful settlement and developmen of the human colony on Mars. He we die there proud of his accomplishments among the few who choose to stay with him rather than venturing further into the universe with the rest of the human race.
With some research i have learnt that the green martian race has a rather long lifespan with J'onn presumably being relatively young. Thus his death will take a long long time after the demise of less immortal comrades. However my ending for j'onn won't go into his final years but rather a storyline of how he spent the years after his friends deaths. Being from Mars i believe it is in J'onns destiny to be the one who becomes known for getting the human race to Mars and thus i believe that by the time Aquaman has breathed his last breath J'onn will begin aiding in the settlement of Mars under the conditions of peace and unity among the settlement and that the race lives on sustainably and in harmony with the planet. Achieving this J'onn will go onto quietly govern life on Mars for the remainder of his life seeing to it that everyone gets a fair chance at life under his name. Then in some million years time when humans have expanded far elsewhere he will die among those who chose to stay with the Manhunter on Mars.
WONDER WOMAN
Being Immortal, Diana will not die, rather she will go on a nostalgic odyssey to prove the gods she has completed her mission of peace before arriving at mount olympus's gates to a proud family of gods.
Being an Amazon, Wonder Woman is practically Immortal, so being associated with the gods i decide that rather than die Diana will go on to ascend to the ranks of the gods who created her. In her final story I see her being caught in a debate with the greek gods as to whether or not Diana has achieved her mission of peace among men. Some will argue that there is still too much hate in the world and others will argue that true peace itself is impossible, this will cause Diana to set out on her own Odyssey which will take her all around the world to show that the peace of the world has truly conquered hate. On her journey she will also visit the resting places of all her long deceased justice league friends and pay a goodbye visit to superman. Her Odyssey will then end with her scaling a seemingly infinite Mount Olympus, and upon reach the mountain's peak she will be greeted at the gates by the gods becoming one herself.
SUPERMAN
Just like Wonder Woman, Superman under the yellow sun has been claimed to be essentially immortal. When Superman revealed himself to this planet he made a promise to protect all he can. It is decidedly so, then, that when his friends who can die, die and Martian Manhunter names himself protector of the settlement on mars and Diana has ascended to the world of the Gods, Clark will remain on Earth until it dies. He will remain protector of its inhabitants, will become an inspiration for all generations of hereos to follow in the footsteps of his fallen friends and will remain with his small family of kryptonians, of supergirl, superboy and krypto. He will make frequent visits to his friend the Martian Manhunter and will be the there when J'onn dies. He will likely be crowned saviour of the multiverse many more times and will there to greet Barry in his infrequent vacations from the speedforce, although Barry will always return to the speed force and the yellow sun will inevitably turn red. And when it does Superman may join all the people he loved in an eternal place, waiting for the day Barry may join them too.
I know this was a long post, it took me more than 2 hours to write and it probably does border on fan fic but this is just my honest thoughts on how i might like to see these legends be written off. If any of you did read it all, i commend you a lot, and yeah, hopefully this doesn't get taken down.
Thanks guys.
