In 2001, DC introduces CMX. Trying to make money off a new rising market, CMX publishes translations of manga. The launch came with controversy as CMX edited the content of Tenjho Tenge - in part to attract a larger audience, in part to appease book sellers who sold the books without wrapping plastic, and so had to take into account that even young readers could view the inside in the store.

In response to the popularity of Wildstorm's Authority, Joe Kelly pens the critically acclaimed What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, & the American Way. The year's major crossover is Our Worlds at War, featuring an all-out invasion by new galactic threat Imperiex-Prime, with several tie-in one-shots across titles.
