In 2022, DC continues to explore the new continuity situation started in Infinite Frontier. They do this in a massive crossover series that spans most of the year, Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths.

AT&T reorganize their assets and merge WarnerMedia with Discovery. DC Entertainment and most other Warner properties now fall under the company Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. (WBD). Discovery's CEO, David Zaslav, also leads this new company, and immediately attracts negative attention. He cans several practically finished projects, including Batgirl, and shrinks the catalog of HBO Max.

In November, James Gunn and Peter Safran become co-CEO and co-chairmen of DC Studios (the former DC Films), following the success of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. They are tasked with overseeing the end of the DC Extended Universe and creating a new movie universe.

The DCEU sees only one movie, Black Adam. Matt Reeves' The Batman, a standalone reboot of the character, comes out to rave reviews and box office success. The Sandman premieres in Netflix, and was one of the streaming service's hit series for that year.
