The 5-U-93-R Pill was designed by Lex Luthor and Superman in order to gift ordinary people with extraordinary powers, specifically the physiology of Kryptonians. Anyone who ingested the pill was granted with strength and durability on the same level as Superman (under a yellow sun). After Superman successfully repelled the attack by the forces of Apokolips, he was convinced that the Justice League's current roster was insufficient to meet the needs for protecting the world at large. Thus he needed more forces. Superman gives Lex Luthor access to Kryptonian technology that allows him to create a series of pills that would enhance normal human beings into superhuman soldiers to serve in their army.
Batman eventually learns of the pills and stages a break-in into the Fortress of Solitude where the pills are being held and while he succeeds in obtaining a sample, it costs the lives of Captain Atom and Green Arrow. Batman scans the stolen pill and uploads the data to a remote server before Superman can intervene, giving Batman's insurgency the means to manufacture it themselves, thus granting the means to put Batman's insurgency on equal footing with the forces of the Regime.
- 5-U-93-R is Leet Speak for "Super" 5-U-93-R, when the numbers are replaced with letters, spells S-U-PE-R, hence the alias of Super-Pill.
- 5-U-93-R is the in-game explanation as to how non-superpowered individuals like Batman can stand up to the likes of superpowered beings like Superman as well as survive their injuries.
