Synopsis for "Crescendo"

On Oolong Island, Wonder Woman faces off with Rogga, while the Doom Patrol and Oolong's security forces go against the dead army. The dead will not fall, and Rogga will not give in.

At the firepit in Bialya, Azraeuz is aware of Yurrd and Zorrm's defeat, but will tolerate it, as it has made the Justice League overconfident. Sure enough, Superman attacks Azraeuz, but Azraeuz has sampled some of Superman's DNA and added it to his own. However, the Man of Steel is still a more formidable opponent that Azraeuz realized.

At Harjavati, Checkmate has placed Yurrd and Zorrm in stasis units to contain them while Batman receives an update from Mr. Terrific. Snapper then informs Batman that the Horsemen are "dead": vital statistics have flatlined and there is no brain activity. Batman and Terrific both assume that they've abandoned their bodies for newer hosts. He tells Terrific to teleport the Horsemens' bodies to a secure location, then to teleport him and Superman to Oolong Island.

At the firepit, Azraeuz continues to battle Superman, finally asking how long his patience must be tested. Superman announces that his "brother's" patience has been rewarded - Zorrm has taken Superman as his host! At that point, however, Superman is teleported away to Oolong, as Azraeuz is annoyed that the humans still have hope.

In the Oolong Island compound, Veronica Cale looks over a control console holding a green crystal. Thinking of everything that has happened, Cale removes the crystal and swallows it. Observing, Niles Caulder concludes what is going on: the crystal is intended to contain the Four Horsemens' essences and then be shunted back through the portal to their home dimension. However, since the console was destroyed, Cale's ingestion of the crystal will allow her to manipulate it. Or die trying.

Outside, Rogga is impressed with Wonder Woman's fighting abilities. Eventually, she is able to overpower Rogga and take his head off - only to in turn be possessed by Rogga. Zorrm also reveals that he is within Superman. However, as soon as they get close to Cale, their essences are ripped from their bodies, restoring Superman and Wonder Woman to full control over their bodies. Azraeuz appears, amazed that Cale has decided to take action, saying that they would have shown her honor and gratitude for coming to Earth, as least whatever they are capable of showing. He commands the dead to kill Cale and release his brothers. Wonder Woman flies for Azraeuz, but it was a feint, and Superman throws Cale at Azraeuz. Grabbing hold, she removes the spirit of the Silent King from his body, trapping it in the crystal inside her and causing the dead to finally fall. All that remains is to remove Yurrd from his host - Batman. Caulder explains that the Four Horsemen must be "invited" to possess bodies by giving into their domains: Superman because he was infected, Wonder Woman because she was in battle, and Batman because of his hunger for revenge. However, his will and desire for vengeance were far greater than Yurrd could control.

The next day, the JLA (or "Trinity" as an absent Lois Lane has dubbed them) have dinner at Wayne Manor and discuss events. Following the containing of the Four Horsemen, Cale evicted everyone but her people off Oolong Island, which has been placed under lockdown. Wonder Woman fears that she might try to harness the Four Horsemens' power, and the three agree to keep an eye on her. At Checkmate, Caulder sums up events for Terrific and Snapper. Terrific is less than pleased that Cale has sole access to the Four Horsemen, but Caulder is unconcerned. After he leaves, Snapper believes that Caulder himself bears watching.

At Oolong Island, Veronica Cale prepares to undergo surgery to remove the crystal housing the Four Horsemen from her body.
