History

By 5700 A.D., humans spent centuries colonizing other planets in their Solar System, thus changing the appearance of some Earthmen (now called "Solarites") according to the climatic conditions of their new homes. Earth is ruled by the Solar Director in Solar City, but since none of the men or women from that era were fit to take that responsibility, the council declared the Green Lantern of the 20th Century, Hal Jordan, the only person worthy to become the Solar Director. Thus they started bringing the Green Lantern in moments of crisis. The technology that allowed them to bring Hal Jordan through time had also the limitation that the traveler couldn't keep his memories, so they planted the fake identity of "Pol Manning" on his consciousness. To cement the charade even further, a human female named Iona Vane had to pose as his lover. When the crisis was averted, the Green Lantern would return to the 20th Century with his memories restored, but unable to remember any of his events as "Pol Manning."[1]

Another Green Lantern who sit in the Solar Director's chair was Salakk.[2]

During the Zero Hour crisis, Korlian summoned the help of a younger version of Green Lantern Hal Jordan, knowing his "final, malevolent fate." However, the novice Green Lantern was incapable of protecting Solar City, and the entire 58th Century was erased from the timeline.[3]
