Synopsis for "The Kryptonite Man"
This story is reprinted from Action Comics #249.
When Lex Luthor comes up with a solution that makes him radiate Green Kryptonite rays, he dubs himself the "Kryptonite Man" and goes on a mission to destroy Superman. Attracting the Man of Steel's attention by smashing a statue, Superman goes into action, and is shocked when his old nemesis turns out to be expelling Kryptonite radiation from his body. Being chased around by Luthor in a plane, Superman is forced to smash into the ground and dig a retreat away from Luthor.
As Clark Kent, Superman is briefly caught off guard as well when the monkey Luthor tested his serum on escapes and traps him at a local zoo. However, he manages to use his fleeting powers to trick it into hopping into a lead pipe. Deciding to go after Luthor in a lead costume, Lex had planned ahead and uses a satellite that changes all of Earth's lead into glass, making Superman's lead costume change into glass as well. Superman then agrees to leave the Earth in 24 hours or face death at the hands of Luthor.
While on the Moon, Superman builds a new lead costume, this time equipping it with a special television monitor allowing Superman to see outside of the suit. He then tracks down the satellite and throws it into deep space. Confronting Luthor again, the criminal is ready with a device that destroys Superman's suit of armor. However, the Man of Steel appears to be unaffected by the Kryptonite anymore (Luthor is unaware that Superman is secretly being controlled like a puppet by Jimmy Olsen, using invisible cables to control him from the Daily Planet's helicopter.)
Because his green glow would make him an easy find in the dark, Luthor drinks the antidote in order to escape into the dark, playing right into Superman's hands. Superman then easily captures and turns Luthor over to the police.

Synopsis for "The Terrible Trio"
This story is reprinted from Superman #88.
The Prankster, The Toyman and criminal scientist Lex Luthor meet by chance at the same amusement park. All are temporarily out of ideas, so they form a teamup; assuming this will give them inspiration. Prankster and Toyman's crimes are imaginative failures. The trio escapes only because Superman is occupied rescuing bystanders from such dangers as falling safes and miniature figures of Superman that are explosive devices.
Luthor egotistically reads out his two partners for their "inflated reputations" and launches something called THE FLOATING AIR MINES----gigantic explosive devices that circle over Earth's major cities. Each city is ordered to pay one billion dollars apiece or face destruction.
While destroying the devices one by one,Superman encounters one that is booby trapped with a Kryptonite coating. Luthor then launches THAT mine into deep space with Superman trapped on it.
But Kryptonite does not affect Superman's vision powers. He uses his heat vision to prematurely explode the mine where it will harm no one, and he escapes unharmed.
Returning to Earth, Superman easily captures the surprised trio. To his delight, Prankster and Toyman are so delighted to have Luthor's ego punctured that they basically surrender without a fight.

Synopsis for "The Conquest of Superman"
This story is reprinted from Action Comics #277.
An emergency erupts while Superman is off-planet. Having nowhere else to turn, the authorities free Lex Luthor from prison so he might aid them in preventing an airplane carrying a hydrogen bomb from crashing. Luthor uses anti-gravity equipment to save the plane, but then turns it on the police so that they cannot return him to prison.
Afterwards, he returns to his hideout in the museum, which he has christened, "Luthor's Lair" to plan his next scheme against Superman. Luthor uses his weird technology to rob the federal gold reserve from Fort Knox. Superman arrives on the scene, but Luthor scares him off with a cage of Kryptonite. Back at his lair, Luthor laughs over the fact that the Kryptonite he used was fake. But his victory is short lived however, as he discovers that the foe he defeated was actually one of Superman's robots. Enraged over the hollow victory, Lex returns all of the gold to Fort Knox.
