Synopsis for "Mission X"

This story is reprinted from Star-Spangled War Stories #96.

A group of soldiers are put on Mission X, wherein they have to set up a military observation post on an island on the South Pacific to aid in the US war effort against Japan. Taking a sub to the location, the troops are attacked by a gigantic sea turtle. Sending out frogmen, they learn the truth of the situation and blast the gigantic turtle with a torpedo. The vessel is next attacked by a gigantic eel creature and carried away. In order to escape the creature, the frogmen strap explosive charges on it and blow it up.

Arriving at the island, the two soldiers leave the ship only to watch as it's taken out of the water by a gigantic Pterodactyl. Although they fail to blast the flying monster with a bazooka, the soldiers on board the submarine are not helpless and blast themselves to freedom with the subs machine guns.

Arriving on the mainland, the two soldiers seek to find cover when they find giant footprints. Hiding behind what they think are boulders they are shocked to find that they are really eggs belonging to another giant turtle. They are forced to flee into the jungle when the monster returns and it's eggs begin to hatch.

In the jungle they have to fend off a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Brontosaurus, both of which they kill with their grenades. Returning to their raft they find it being chewed up by another Dinosaur. Just then the island is hit with a gigantic tsunami, forcing the two soldiers to hastily build a make-shift raft out of an egg shell. Adrift at sea they are eventually picked up by a boat patrol.

Returning to base, they are eager to go on yet another Mission X.
