In the 853rd Century the galaxy is defended by the Justice Legion, inspired by and often descended from the 20th Century Justice League and the 31st Century Legion of Super-Heroes, among other heroes throughout time. The most well known team is the Justice Legion Alpha, which protects the solar system with each member overseeing an individual planet, includes future analogues of Superman (defender of Earth), Hourman (defender of Saturn), Starman (overseer of the remains of Uranus), Aquaman (defender of Neptune), Wonder Woman (defender of Venus), Batman (steward of the Prison Planet Pluto) and the Flash (defender of Mercury). Advanced terraforming processes make all the solar system's planets habitable, with the ones most distant from the Sun being warmed by Solaris, a former villain reprogrammed by one of Superman's descendants. The population of the solar system is largely contained within tesseracts - infinite spaces within finite containers - allowing infinite population growth and a lack of damage to the natural world. The economy revolves around the instantaneous sharing of knowledge via the telepathic communication system Headnet, with the main commodity of the era being "Icons", special badges that temporarily allow the user superhuman abilities.

The original Superman still lives, but had spent over fifteen thousand years in a self-imposed exile in his Fortress of Solitude in the heart of our sun; after Solaris rebelled, Superman emerged to destroy the tyrant star once and for all, and with the aid of the Superman of the 5th dimension. Hourman used his time-space manipulation abilities to revive Krypton, adding a new world of superhuman beings to the solar system of the 853rd century.
