Abigail Hall was a former surgeon who blamed Batman for ruining her life. She created the villainous identity Shush to take revenge on him.

History

Abigail was a surgeon mentored by Tommy Elliot. At Tommy's request, Abigail covered for him on shifts while he attended to private matters, unwittingly aiding his activities as Hush. When Tommy was unmasked by Batman, Abigail's role covering up his absences was discovered. For her role in Hush's schemes, she was fired and lost her medical license. Left with no other options, she became a teacher at Gotham High School.

Revenge

Consumed by bitterness over losing her medical career, Abigail was drawn to Man-Bat's cult. Man-Bat convinced Abigail to take on the identity of Shush and work with him achieve his vision for Gotham in exchange for his aid in taking down Batman.

Abigail's first act as Shush was orchestrating the kidnapping of Dr. Kafira, a scientist whose DNA-sequencing work Man-Bat needed. When Batman and Robin attempted to defend Dr. Kafia, Shush shot Batman with a gas pellet that altered his pheromones so bats would attack him.

The next morning, Abigail welcomed a new student, Batman's son Damian Wayne, to her A.P. Biology class. Later that day, Shush broke into Blackgate to silence, White Rabbit, so she did not reveal information about Man-Bat's plans to the police or Batman. Shush failed to kill White Rabbit after Batman rescued her during a high speed chase and caused Shush to crash her car. Following information from White Rabbit, Batman confronted Man-Bat and Shush at their hideout. To Shush's chagrin, Man-Bat fled to the sky rather than fight, taking her with him.

After growing impatient with Man-Bat and his deferral of her revenge, Shush decided to take matters into her own hands. She approached Batman and offered to lead him to Man-Bat whom she claimed had lied to her. In reality, She planned to set Batman and Man-Bat against each other in the hope they would take each other out. However, Man-Bat anticipated her betrayal and ambushed her and Batman alongside his followers. Batman stayed behind giving Shush time to escape. As she ran, Man-Bat dealt her a severe injury to her side.

Moved by Batman sacrificing himself to save her, Shush patched herself up enough to confront Damian at school and give him information he would need to rescue Batman and prevent Man-Bat's plans. Shush managed inform Damian of his father's fate and Man-Bat's plan before collapsing from her injury and being rushed to the hospital. After receiving surgery for her injuries, she escaped to avoid punishment for her crimes.

• Abigail disguises her voice when operating as Shush. According to Damian Wayne, her Shush voice is identical to her whispering.
