Synopsis for "Episode Two: The Abin Sur"

Jo Mullein has the same vision of the ring of light in darkness that Hal did, and hears a voice telling her that she must "be without fear" and exists at the "green level of light". Hal says that with the green light around her she looks like Abin Sur and asks what the alien did to her. She replies that she doesn't know and has been having hallucinations. She looks at the energy emanating from her ring and says she felt something pulling her to the diner. She realises it was Hal and asks him what happened to his hand. He warns her to stay back because the Black Hand destroys anything it sees as a danger to him and he can't control it. Hal swears he tried to hold it back from killing the people in the diner but he doesn't think willpower controls the Hand.

Five days ago, Abin Sur descends from the Green Lantern into Evergreen's main street. The entire town runs out to see what has happened and Sheriff Guy Gardner and his two deputies, Rita and Roy, confront him. Abin Sur says that he exists at the green level of light and orders them to be without fear. Guy has his deputies lower their guns and hold the townspeople back so as not to provoke Abin Sur. He approaches Abin Sur and tries to talk to him, explaining that he is the authority of the town. When Abin Sur does not react Guy asks him if he understands what laws are and Abin Sur replies that he does He summons green energy in his hand and says that judgement will commence. Guy and Roy pull out their guns and point them at Abin Sur, ordering him to stop what he is doing, but Abin Sur again simply orders Guy to be without fear, telling him that he does not exist in the spectrum of light. Guy almost shoots Abin Sur but Jo pushes her way to the front of the crowd and yells at Guy to stop. She tells him that they know what Abin Sur is capable of but not what he wants, and not to escalate the situation.

After a moment of immense tension Guy stands down and asks Abin Sur to tell them what he wants, but Abin Sur wordlessly obliterates him with a blast of energy. The people scream in terror and Sur declares that Guy Gardner has been judged. Roy and Rita shoot at him but the bullets ricochets off a force field and hit a bystander. Abin Sur decapitates Rita with his bare hands and cuts off Roy's hand when he continues firing. Jo and John rush over to staunch the bleeding from the wound, but Hal grabs Rita's gun off the floor and points it at Abin Sur. Abin Sur locks eyes with Hal and says "Hal Jordan... judgement is in progress", somehow knowing Hal's name despite him never saying it. John runs in between them and tells Hal not to shoot, because Abin Sur will simply kill him too. Hal reluctantly lowers the gun and Abin Sur also addresses John by name, telling him to be without fear. Abin Sur transforms into a ball of green energy and flies back up to the Green Lantern.

In the present, Jo asks him what he did with the gun and it emerges from Hal's hand, also solid black. He tells her to get out, because the hand wants to destroy the light. He says that it is an old idea which should have died, but someone fed it and now there is a little piece of it in everything. Hal tells Jo that he's trying not to listen to it, but his eyes turn black as he says it's telling him he was right.

Back in the past, with the bubble still over the town, Jo, Hal and John meet up again. John tells them nobody is coming to save them and they need to take Abin Sur out. He takes Jo's ring out of his pocket, saying he thinks he knows what can do it.
