Synopsis for "Options"

Salem teleports herself and a small group of JSA members, including Green Lantern, away from the Bureau of Sovereignty's attack in New York. The group flee to Coast City looking for Hal Jordan, but only find Carol Ferris in Jordan's trailer. The Amazo android Jadestone easily chases the group with Jesse Quick's speed, defeats them and drains their powers. However, when he steals the power of the Starheart he suddenly freezes and powers down. They take the opportunity to escape with the unconscious Carol, and Salem says they should run to a nexus of ley lines where she can summon the Tower of Fate.

After the JSA leave, Jadestone reboots. His programming instructs him to return to base and report, but he then finds himself given the option "Y or N?". Confused, he follows through on the initial programmed response and flies to the Hall of Order. When he meets with Amanda Waller he again receives two conflicting programs; one recognises Waller as his controller and instructs him to obey her, but the other identifies her as a threat to be destroyed. She orders him to track down the Tower of Fate, the only place the JSA could have fled to, and to bring back Alan Scott. He again receives two possible directives: find Alan Scott or terminate Amanda Waller. He once again decides to follow his original program and capture Alan.

Jadestone goes to the entrance to the Oblivion Bar, where a number of magical heroes and villains have fled for refuge. The magic of the Starheart allows him to see the wards around the door and break through. He demands to know where the Tower of Fate is and the patrons charge him.

Meanwhile on Gamorra, Steve Trevor breaks free of the men who were escorting him to the cells, knocks them out and steals their uniforms, which include face-concealing masks for no adequately explained reason. He disguises himself as a Bureau soldier using the mask which hides his identity, and the identity of everyone working at the prison base, and goes looking for where Waller is holding the captured metas. He quickly finds the detention cells but realises that they are all heroes and wonders what Waller is doing with the villains. Just then a soldier walks in escorting Angle Man. Bend manages to break free and knock his guard down, but Trevor smacks him down. The guard thanks Steve, not realising that he is an intruder because they are both wearing masks, and asks Steve to help him take Angle Man downstairs to where the villains are held.

The JSA and Carol reach the current location of the Tower of Fate. Stitch comes out of the Tower to welcome them, but Jadestone suddenly flies in and blasts the ground in front of the entrance. He says they must all come with him, but does not attack. He receives prompts to either eliminate them or "inquire", and chooses inquiry. He asks Alan why he saves people and Alan replies that it is the right thing to do. Salam and Stitch both realise that the magic of the Starheart has altered Jadestone.

Jadestone still does not fully understand and asks Alan if it is his programming. Alan asks Jadestone what his programming tells him to do right then and Jadestone again receives two responses: detain them and deliver them to Waller; or set them free and leave. Jadestone admits that he hears two voices which are offering him choices, and Alan tells Jadestone that he now has free will. Alan asks Jadestone to make the choice to let them go, but he refuses. Alan then suggests that Jadestone let the others go and only take him, so he can help him come to terms with having free will. Jadestone agrees and carries Alan away as the others retreat into the Tower.
