The Absolute Universe, commonly referred to as The Elseworld or the Alpha World, is a parallel universe that emerged concurrently with Earth Omega following the creation of the Infinite Frontier in the aftermath of the last Metal War. Along with Earth Omega, the Elseworld is one of two poles of the expanded Multiverse-1.
It shares many similarities to Earth 0, but instead of running on hope as embodied by Superman, it runs on despair as embodied by Darkseid.
History
Origin
After The Hands restored the entire Creation, two new realities were born in the primary Multiverse, replacing Earth 0 as its new center. The newly-formed Totality of Earth 0 quickly discovered the existence of these two realities, acknowledging that, despite being unreachable, one of them, which they renamed as the "Elseworld", was actually an Alpha World, full of possibilities.[1]

The Absolute Universe prior to the arrival of Darkseid
Despite their best efforts, both the Justice League and the Legion of Doom were unable to obtain any information about the phenomenon from their observers working together as the Totality. However, they were able to determine that it was in a state of incomplete development, exhibiting a pattern of vibration similar to, but new to, that observed on Earth 0.[2]
Absolute activation
In the aftermath of Amanda Waller's unsuccessful campaign to eradicate Earth's metahuman population and the Flash's severing of Earth 0 from the rest of the Multiverse, Darkseid's isolation from his multiversal aspects began a volatile transformation into a full-fledged entity. This led him to question his role within the Omniverse and led him on a quest that began with the construction of a Miracle Machine and the pursuit of the Spectre with the intention of merging with him. Ultimately, using his creation to merge with Aztar, he would attack the newly formed Justice League Unlimited at their Watchtower, dying as intended at the hands of Superman to successfully defy his destiny.[2]
Reborn on The Elseworld, stripped of both his role and his connection to Earth 0, Darkseid would activate the fledgling reality by tainting it with his negative energy, accelerating its development and negatively influencing its history, causing it to resemble a contemporary Prime Earth in which its heroes would lack important aspects of themselves. By the 31st century, Alpha World had come to resemble Apokolips, and Darkseid ruled with the help of his Legion.[2]

Trivia
- The Absolute Universe line, which features reimagined versions of the DC Universe characters, is conceptually inspired by Marvel's Ultimate imprint: the origins and the dark tone of this universe heavily mirrors the renewed Ultimate Universe, Earth-6160.
- The original designation, "Elseworld", is a nod to the DC imprint, Elseworlds, which featured alternate stories that are set in worlds separated from the main DC Comics continuity.
