Eterno was otherwise unstoppable, but for the rays emitted by the Absorbium.

Absorbium was a rare radioactive element found only in the center of the Earth, which paralysed Eterno the Immortal over the course of a billion years.

History

Eterno was otherwise unstoppable, but for the rays emitted by the Absorbium.[1]

One billion years ago, the Xan had sent the indestructible Eterno to the core of the Earth to retrieve the Absorbium when space-gas was going to envelope and destroy all non-oceanic life; which included their advanced civilization. But an unforeseen and unfortunate effect of the element's radiation was that it paralysed the giant half-android, and he did not return to the surface with the Absorbium and the Xan were wiped from the Earth.

When the Superman Revenge Squad visited Earth millennia later, they removed the Absorbium which freed Eterno to attack Metropolis and Superman. Eterno the Immortal turned on them, and the Revenge Squad created Absorbium bullets which destroyed the giant half-android.[1]

In the 30th Century, Grimbor the Chainsman used Absorbium shackles to incapacitate Light Lass while breaking into Legion of Super-Heroes Headquarters.[2]

Properties

The element was weakly radioactive, owing to the very long half-life it required to maintain the irradiation of Eterno; and it only occured in the very center of the Earth. Its most valuable property was either absorbing or neutralizing deadly gases, as it would have saved the Xan from the space-gas that loomed in the path of Earth's orbit.

Absorbium could be destroyed by Cyclo-Rays, and the material could be created in an Atomic Transmuter.[1]
