Synopsis for "Leviathan Rises, Part 4"

Director Bones is being held at an F.B.I. safe zone, where is interrogated by lawyer Kate Spencer, who wants to know what happened at the D.E.O.'s headquarters. Bones can only think of the people who died on his watch and when Kate asks who was responsible, Bones does not answer, only saying that he know who it was. Kate continues to ask questions about the attack, but Bones asks her why is she so curious about what happened. If she is a lawyer, she would be interested in protecting him. He suddenly realizes that she is not Kate Spencer; she is the enemy and she has come to finish the job.

Moments later, the woman leaves the room Bones is being held at, telling the F.B.I. team nearby that Bones is having a heart attack. As the woman escapes, the hologram around her face dissipates, revealing she was never Kate Spencer.

Clark and Lois fly to London, England, under their new identities, Chaz and Andi, to investigate Spyral and hopefully, anticipate Leviathan's newest attack. Clark and Lois remember the first time they assumed their Chaz and Andi aliases: a mission concerning Checkmate. Chaz and Andi make their way to a nearby bookstore, where they will meet the Spyral contact. Andi wonders if leaving Waller in the Fortress of Solitude was a good idea, but Chaz says he trusts her.

Waller is having a bad time at the Fortress, getting constantly annoyed by Kelex and Jimmy.

Chaz and Andi enter the bookstore, where they find their contact, a Spyral agent codenamed Tiger, who doesn't know whether or not Chaz and Andi are trustworthy, points his gun at them but Chaz says they just want a way to escape Leviathan's attacks. Tiger tells them that Spyral was originally created to spy on superheroes, believing them to be the enemy, but superheroes were never the enemy. And so, the creator of Spyral created Leviathan just to give Spyral something to do. As Chaz uses his X-ray vision to check if Tiger is hiding any weapons, he asks if Talia al Ghul created Spyral, but Tiger answers that she merely inherited the organization. He feels disappointed that all this time, he was following the whims of a rich person.

Chaz suddenly hears a noise, so he tells Andi to hide in the saferoom with Tiger while he goes to address the emergency. The Leviathan creature has arrived at the bookstore and Superman goes out to confront it. Just as the creature is generating its blue light, Superman grabs his enemy and throws it into low orbit, where it harmlessly explodes.

Superman returns to the bookstore to make sure Lois is safe, but Lois is nowhere to be found.

Notes

  • Kate Kane's appearance in this issue, where she is associated with Spyral, is an error, as it was Katrina Netz, AKA Kathy Kane, who formerly lead Spyral.
