- My name is Clark Kent. I am the son of farmers and of scientists. I am a husband and a father. I am a journalist by trade, and, as such, feel compelled to document my time in this place. But on some days... days like today... I am called upon to fight. For years, I fought for truth and justice on a world that had become my home. Some opposed me in this... others joined me. In the words of another writer, we were the "Champions of the Oppressed"... able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Such feats may be beyond me now... but the work goes on.
Action Comics #1039 is an issue of the series Action Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of March, 2022. It was published on January 25, 2022.
Synopsis for "The Warworld Saga, Part 4"
Superman, Steel and OMAC are forced to fight in the arenas of Warworld alongside the Phaelosians. Steel and OMAC accumulate a string of victories and multiple links in their chains, but Superman performs poorly as he tries to fight as if he were still super-strong and invincible. Natasha remains loyal to Superman, but OMAC blames him for Lightray's death.
Superman and other slaves are forced to watch the Old Crow, the last survivor of a race conquered by Mongul, die. Mongul's Bloodpriests give a sermon after the Old Crow's death, ostensibly reading off of ancient carvings that resemble the markings on the Genesis Fragment. However, Superman realises that they are scanning the carvings from top to bottom when the writing runs upwards. He deduces that the Bloodpriests cannot read the ancient writings, and reasons that he may learn something useful if he can decipher them. Natasha, who has convinced a blacksmith to let her work in his forge, gifts Clark with a breastplate in the shape of the Superman Symbol. Superman asks Kryl-Ux to teach him to fight without his powers.
In the wastelands of Warworld, Midnighter has started a slave rebellion. He and a squad of rebels scout out a cavern where many Warzoons are praying to a figure on a throne, revealed to be Apollo.
