Synopsis for "Kal-El Returns, Chapter One: Double Sun"
Metallo's sister Tracy visits him at Stryker's Island. The authorities have not repaired the damage to him since his last fight with Superman, leaving him almost totally paralysed except for his right arm and only able to communicate through a text screen. Tracy blames herself for John's condition, dating back to a day in their past where she was not brave enough and John needed to save her. She suggests that if she tells the guards what he did for her he might get better treatment but he refuses. Tracy promises to visit John every week and tells him that there is what he used to call a "double sun" that day- the moon visible in the daytime. In fact, the "moon" is Warworld, which Superman and the Authority have brought to Earth's solar system.
One week later the United Nations calls Superman to answer for his decision to bring a planet full of alien warriors to their doorstep. Superman promises that the situation is only temporary until he can return the various races on Warworld to their homeworlds, and in the meantime Earth's scientists are free to study Warworld's advanced technology.
Lex Luthor and Mercy Graves watch the hearings, and Mercy suggests that Superman's plans to develop renewable energy from Warworld's technology could impact "Project Blackout". Luthor launches a remote-controlled Warsuit to Warworld and tracks down an alien corpse, revealing that he has a mole among Superman's allies. The Warsuit digs an Orphan Box out of the dead body.
Meanwhile, Osul-Ra and Otho-Ra have been living with Lois and Clark since the return to Earth. The Kents are both enjoying having children in their home again, since from their perspective Jon aged from a boy to a young man overnight, and they regret not being there to see him grow up. Superman is conflicted about whether to take them in permanently or try to find a place for the orphaned siblings elsewhere, but Lois ensures him they will figure it out.
Luthor visits Metallo in prison and offers to "help" him. Corben repeatedly tells Luthor to leave but Luthor shows him the Orphan Box and tells him he is needed to save the world from aliens.
