Synopsis for "Phantoms, Part Eight"
In the solar system, the sun continues to shrink and the Justice League are helpless to stop it.
Meanwhile in the Phantom Zone, Superman flies up out of the Well of Time and finds the Zone breaking apart, with huge chunks of solid matter hurtling through it and crashing into each other. Superman saves two Zoners from being crushed and drops them off in a relatively safe area. He then hears someone praying in Daxamite and flies towards the sound, saving Lar Gand just before he is also crushed by flying rocks. Clark asks Lar Gand what happened and he says that Aethyr ordered a gang of prisoners to kill him but he got away; not revealing that he killed them with a rock.
Lar Gand tells Superman that Aethy has gone mad and Superman reveals that he will destroy the Zone if he keep creating matter inside it. He tells Lar Gnd that Aethyr must be drawing the energy of a star to create this much matter and Lar Gand realises to his horror that Aethyr is draining Earth's sun. He tells Superman that he needs to get out of the Zone and stop the energy drain at the other end. He tells Superman that Aethyr teleports around with the aid of a metallic sphere and that he needs to get it. Superman refuses to abandon the Zoners, but Lar Gand says he will rescue as many as he can while Superman fights Aethyr, and Superman returns him to the Val-Kon.
At the X'rphoan Intergalactic Exposition; Superboy, Super-Man and the Kunds teleport back in. The curator calls for the guards, but the Khunds reveal that the X'rphoan Empire fell generations ago, the Exposition is bankrupt and there are no guards. Kenan offers the curator a hefty "consultancy fee" if he helps them return all the artifacts to their rightful owners, and he agrees. Super-Man, Superboy and all of Superman's possessions are soon returned to the Fortress of Solitude. Kenan invites Conner to an exhibition of Chinese art at a gallery in Metropolis and Superboy refuses, but changes him mind when Kenan tells him there will be girls there.
Back in the Zone, Superman confronts Aethyr and tries to get him to stop, but Aethyr is now completely insane and begins growing even larger on the energy he draws from the Sun. Realising he can't be reasoned with, Superman punches Aethyr out, grabs the sphere and tries to flee with it. Aethy grabs Superman and begins crushing him in his hand, but Lar Gand and the Val-Kon swoop in and fire on Aethyr, causing him to drop Superman. Superman tries to fly away, but Aetyr has grown so much that he now exerts his own gravitational pull. Superman yells at Aethyr to stop as the floating landmasses . They crash into Aethyr, seemingly killing him, but Aethyr's death does not stop the mass building in the Zone, meaning it is still being destabilised and energy is still being drawn from the sun. The Val-Kon picks Superman up and Lar Gand activates the sphere, creating a rift to Earth. He tells Superman to hurry, as both Earth and the Zone are memer hours from destruction.

Synopsis for "Your Mission, Kara Zor-El"
Prisoner 8912 explains her backstory to Supergirl. Her brother, who has the power to induce rage like she has the power to induce fear, forced her to travel the galaxy with him and help him destroy planets. They would land on a new world and she would spread fear and mistrust among the people, which her brother would then channel into hate and anger. The world would inevitably fall into planetary war and be destroyed, and the siblings would move on.
Prisoner 8912 finally found the courage to break free of her brother after seeing Supergirl defeat Krem of the Yellow Hills on Fiorinine. She stabbed her brother with his own sword and abandoned him on an exploding planet. However, she believes that her brother is still alive and her only true escape will be to die.
