Action Comics #1082 is an issue of the series Action Comics (Volume 1) with a cover date of March, 2025. It was published on January 15, 2025.
Synopsis for "Force Majeure, Part One"
On a random day in Metropolis supposedly reformed supervillain Major Disaster robs a bank, in the process triggering an earthquake that kills a bystander. Superman, who convinced Major Disaster to give up his life of crime and even vouched for him to join the Justice League, responds to the incident. Angrier than he has ever been before, Superman almost blasts Disaster with his heat vision at full power, but Booker immediately surrenders.
Major Disaster is incarcerated in Stryker's Island pending trial. Through his lawyer he asks Clark Kent to visit him in prison so he can make a statement about what happened. Major Disaster tells Clark that the pressure of trying to go straight was too much, and he wanted to rob the bank for some quick cash. Although the death was an accident he is wracked with guilt and plans to plead guilty. He tells Clark to publish that he is a screwup, and that's all he'll ever be.
Later at home Clark talks to Lois about what happened and how he seriously wanted to hurt Major Disaster in that moment. Lois reminds him that when he convinced Major Disaster to change his ways he was at the lowest point in his life, and converting Disaster was a major event that restored his faith. She tells him he needs to focus on the wins rather than the losses and reminds him that he also convinced other supervillains to give up their lives of crime; although he points out that one of them, the Atomic Skull, also recently fell off. Clark says that something doesn't feel right about them both relapsing after working so hard. Lois replies that Booker betrayed his trust and he doesn't owe him anything, but encourages him to keep looking into it if he really thinks there's something more to it.
The next day Clark goes to Chief Kekoa's press conference on the Major Disaster attack. Kekoa reveals that Booker had recently become addicted to online gambling and was deeply in debt, and so had likely robbed the bank for quick cash. He also says off the record that he genuinely thought Superman was going to kill Major Disaster. Clark asks how Booker, who was working with a parole officer and superheroes, fell through the cracks; but Kekoa replies that most people who have been in prison find it hard to readjust to normal life and break down. Clark then goes to meet with Major Disaster's former partners Scorch and "The Mighty Bruce". They both tell him the same thing Kekoa did: going straight is a constant struggle, especially for a metahuman, and Booker just didn't have what it took.
As Clark is walking home from talking to Scorch, he is accosted by a mugger armed with a collapsible baton. He rolls his eyes at this, but the baton sparks with energy and when the mugger hits him across the face it actually splits the skin. He stands there frozen in shock, the mugger hits him again and knocks him to the ground, then runs away.
