Synopsis for "Force Majeure, Part Two"

Superman wakes up in the Batcave still with bruises and gashes on his face and his powers at less than half strength. He and Batman talk about what happened and how a seemingly random mugger could have hurt him. Since Luthor erased knowledge of his secret identity from the world, it is likely the attacker did not know he was Superman. Batman suggests that Clark Kent was the target and the attacker was carrying something that would dampen Superman's powers on him in case Superman tried to intervene, as Clark Kent is widely "known" to be Superman's friend. They hypothesise that it could have been some kind of miniature red solar generator; only a few people would be capable of building something like that, and Mighty Bruce is one of them. Batman says they need to get the other heroes involved but Superman insists on pursuing the story himself, as the attacker came after him as a journalist, not a superhero.

Superman remembers talking to Chief Kekoa after the press conference and learning that the man killed in the earthquake was Max Boykin, a therapist who helped supervillains reintegrate into society after being released from prison. Despite his job there was no apparent connection between them as Major Disaster was not one of his clients; however Atomic Skull, another supervillain ex-con who recently relapsed, was. After leaving the Batcave, he goes to Stryker's Island as Clark Kent and speaks to Atomic Skull. He immediately sees that Atomic Skull appears to be suffering from depression, he refuses to answer to his real name and tells Clark to only call him by his codename as he'll only ever be a C-list hood. Clark tells him that other people have seen more in him, but Skull simply says that was their mistake. Clark then asks what he meant when he told Superman "You don't understand" after he was arrested. Skull asks Clark if he hopes to accomplish anything at all tomorrow, and when Clark replies that he does Skull says that he wouldn't understand either then. Clark then asks what Skull can tell him about Max Boykin.

After leaving Stryker's, Clark calls Lois to let her know he's okay and flies to the sun to recharge his powers and heal. He then returns to Earth and goes to talk to Scorch again as Supermam. He tells her that "Clark Kent" found a connection between Atomic Skull, Max Boykin and Mighty Bruce. Superman says that Major Disaster and Atomic Skull have changed and seem "empty", like their sense of hope has been taken away. He believes that Mighty Bruce is involved in a high-tech conspiracy that Atomic Skull and Major Disaster were victimised by and asks for her help in reaching out to Major Disaster as he is refusing to speak to anyone. Scorch sadly tells Superman that he sucks and teleports them away.

They reappear in a pocket dimension where Bruno Mannheim greets them. Superman immediately grabs Mannheim but Aubrey tells him that Mannheim's not doing anything illegal and gets Superman to put him down. Mannheim tells Superman that he has been buying strings of DNA called "telomeres" from recently released criminals hard up for cash who Boykin was recruiting. He then implants telomeres into paying clients, extending their lifespans. The procedure is not illegal as no laws against it exist yet. As a side-effect of having their telomeres removed, donors have a reduced lifespan and feelings of despair, doom and hopelessness; meaning Disaster likely killed Boykin as revenge. Superman tells Mannheim he won't let him get away with this and Mannheim teleports away, telling Scorch to deal with Superman.

Scorch blasts Superman with magic fire, but rather than attack her back, he tells her that he understands she is trying to protect Major Disaster and says he can help both of them. He also reveals that he knows it was her and not Mighty Bruce who attacked Clark Kent, and that he knows she was trying to chase him off the story rather than hurt him. He says that it's not too late to hate Booker, and when she claims he doesn't care about them and just wants to help to feel good about himself; he replies that it's not about him, it's about her. Scorch uses her powers to bathe him in yellow sunlight that heals his wounds and then teleports them to Mannheim's location. Mannheim calls in a squad of Intergang goons to kill them but Superman easily fights them off and tells Mannheim that he's shutting down his operation. Suddenly a group of mysterious aliens flies in to attack him.
