Synopsis for "Wanted!"

At a military laboratory, Superboy is surrounded by U.S. soldiers while General Lane has ordered his arrest. Superboy is confused by this ordeal, as he had taken down a terrorist group but the soldiers do not seem to care. To prevent the military from recognizing him, Superboy vibrates his face at super-speed, causes a smokescreen with his super-breath and escapes back to Smallville.

Jonathan and Martha find Clark in his room and he tells them what happened. Martha explains that the military can't just arrest Clark and Clark is confused as to why Captain Comet did not show up to help him even though he requested Clark's assistance in the first place. He uses his telescopic and X-ray visions to take a look at his home, but Blake is nowhere to be found and Clark promises to find him at school.

The next day, Clark is checking his locker until he is found by Lana, who is upset that Clark bailed on her during their date. He feels bad for leaving Lana so suddenly, so he tries to come up with an excuse to avoid hurting her feelings, but things get worse when Kenny Braverman shows up and wants payback for Clark shoving him a few days ago. Clark is about to let Kenny punch him and break his own hand but decides against it and Pete defuses the situation by reminding Kenny about his injured mother and Kenny, feeling ashamed, decides to leave Clark alone for the time being.

Once the school day is over, Clark confronts Blake when the latter is trying to get to his car. Blake admits to being the one who alerted the military to Superboy's presence and Clark asks Blake whether he is really on Clark's side after what he did. Blake replies that he is on Clark's side but their conversation is put on hold when Blake detects a man about to fall off a cliff. Superboy quickly rescues the man and Captain Comet says that he wanted to put Superboy in a problem he cannot solve just by punching it because people and institutions are afraid of things they cannot immediately understand and for Superboy to be effective, he needs to earn their trust. Superboy still feels frustrated at being a wanted man thanks to Captain Comet but Captain Comet replies that Superboy will figure out something out. He has to, lest he wants to spend the rest of his life as a farmhand.

The next day, Clark's class has to dissect frogs for anatomy class. After cutting a frog open, Pete figures out that it died of liver disease even though the frog looked outwardly healthy, and the teacher, Ms. Taylor, replies that some diseases are not immediately obvious. Thanks to his super-senses, Clark detects the foul smell coming off the frog's body and this reminds him off something.

Later that night, Clark visits Blake at his home and finds him experimenting with some vials and chemicals. He is aware of Captain Comet's history with the Justice Alliance and that even though that group disbanded, some of its members remained active as individuals, but Captain Comet disappeared from the public eye, and Clark now knows why: Captain Comet is sick. His powers have been diminishing over the years and Captain Comet admits he is not nearly as powerful as he used to be. That is why he has been pushing Clark to be the best hero possible. He wants someone who can replace him. He has also been working on a spaceship that could take him to outer space so he can find a cure with one of the alien civiizations he had met in his younger days but he has been unable to generate more fuel.

Clark thinks he can help Captain Comet lift his ship into orbit until Captain Comet can find more fuel, but Captain Comet rejects his help because he wants Clark to remain focused on his training instead of helping an old man finding a cure that might not even exist. Clark insists, but Captain Comet holds his ground and Clark ultimately respects his decision. Captain Comet reveals this was yet another test for Clark, a test to help Clark respect other people's choices. Even though Clark will be the most powerful being in the world, that does not mean he can impose his will on other people and Clark will have to accept it.

Captain Comet accepts Superboy's help in lifting his ship and believes he will solve the problem with the military. Once Superboy lifts the ship into orbit, he thanks Captain Comet for his help and Captain Comet replies that it was part of the job. Superboy throws the ship into outer space and waves his mentor goodbye as Captain Comet disappears into the stars.
