Synopsis for Tommy Tomorrow: "The Earth Doom"
Tommy Tomorrow is commissioned to study the radiation of a Nova, which may blind all mankind. He takes the Planeteers with him on a ship but is forbidden to tell his mission. The ship goes to a dangerous proximity to the Sun. Metal eaters also begin to damage the ship. After Tommy's severe authoritarianism, the crew arms a mutiny. Tommy orders the ship to Jupiter, where, after facing a Jovian monster, he discovers Element 99, which when being sprayed in the Earth's atmosphere, protects mankind from the Nova, and he is acclaimed as a hero.

Notes
- Tommy Tomorrow's story is set in an alternate future of 1988 where space travel is routine for humanity.
- Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Compendium lists this as an appearance of Earth-54 (obviously only the Tommy Tomorrow story).
Trivia
- In the 1988 Tommy Tomorrow future, element 99 (and further) had not yet been discovered; In Real World, this element is Einsteinium, which was discovered in 1952. Since Einsteinium is highly radioactive, spraying it on Earth's atmosphere would not really protect anyone from the Nova, but massively increase the incidence of cancer.
- In Earth-54, the Great Deluge was a historical fact.
- Tommy Tomorrow is shown not being affected by Jupiter's high gravity, which he was in the previous issue!
