Synopsis for Superman: "The Confessions of Superman"

A contest is held on the planet Wexr II to see what Superman Revenge Squad members will have the honor of destroying Superman. The tournament winners are the Liquidators which are composed of a husband and wife team. They are presented with a box containing a form of artificial Red K and the pair travels to Earth to set up their trap. Their spaceship materializes above the Iwo Jima Memorial and they proceed to replace it with a statue of Superman. The event is treated as an annoyance and the authorities look upon it as an attempt to embarrass Superman. They do however discover evidence that that prank was pulled by a being with incredible power. The next morning a mighty Juggernaut batters through a thick wall of the Metropolis Mint. The armored being attacks the security guards and melts down a collection of coins using controlled heat circuits. When the authorities examine the crime scene they discover that some of the coins have been altered with Superman's likeness. The event throws more suspicion on the man of steel. Superman then travels to the Fortress of Solitude where he is joined by Supergirl. Superman suspects that he might be under the influence of Red Kryptonite so he decides to test himself with a gas chamber that detects the presence of any Red K radiation. Superman turns on the device and asks Supergirl if his body is glowing red. He is obviously glowing but for some reason Supergirl lies and tells Superman that there is no sign of Red K. She proposes that Superman chain himself to a table to see if he breaks them in his sleep to commit more crimes. Superman wakes up the next morning to find the chains broken and he learns of a news event which announces that Mount Rushmore has been destroyed. The faces of the Presidents have been destroyed and replaced by a likeness of Superman's face. Unbeknownst to Superman, Supergirl was actually a member of the revenge squad in disguise who placed chemicals on the chains to sever them. By now Superman is convinced that he is responsible for all the recent crimes. He contacts the daily planet and writes out detailed confessions for each of his misdeeds. Superman then travels to the Fortress of Solitude where he is about to open a box of Gold Kryptonite which will permanently erase his super powers permanently. Story is continued in the next issue.

Synopsis for Legion of Super-Heroes: "Half a Legionnaire"

Duo Damsel is exhausted after her latest assignment, so when Mon-El sends her to deliver important papers to the planet Ikros, one of her twin selves, whom Bouncing Boy dubs Luomu II, undertakes the mission while the other remains on Earth to relax. Days have passed without word from Luomu's other self, when a masked man and woman with super-powers suddenly appear on Earth and begin committing robberies. Investigating, Mon-El, Bouncing Boy, and Duo Damsel encounter Luornu II, who introduces them to her fiance, Nam'Lor. Nam'Lor departs and the two Luomus again become one. Mon-El, who has to leave on a space mission, warns Bouncing Boy to watch Duo Damsel carefully. A distraught Duo Damsel soon recalls Luomu II's recent experiences in a dream. After completing her mission to Ikros, she had been rescued from a fall by the planet's hero, Nam'Lor, with whom she quickly fell in love. Duo Damsel wakes in terror, and Luornu II suddenly splits off from her and departs. The heroine now realizes that her other self has developed a distinct, separate personality. After an inconclusive skirmish with the two masked raiders at Metropolis's Amalgonite Refinery, Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel realize that the criminals are actually Nam'Lor and Luomu II, whom he calls Lelith. Confronted by the two, Bouncing Boy attempts to stop Nam'Lor with a super-power neutralizer, but he avoids the blasts and overpowers the Legionnaire.

Lelith then orders Nam'Lor to kill Bouncing Boy, but he refuses. He then explains that the hyper-aura surrounding his body, which gives him his powers, had turned Lelith evil, and that he had committed crimes for her in the hope that she would return to normal, because he loved her. He now leaves her forever, telling the Legionnaires that the aura-radiation will wear off in a few days, and Lelith will become her old self.
