| Synopsis2 = When a warp-transport device is donated to the Legion by the United Planets, Wayland Bannan, head of Earth's Bureau of Revenue and Taxation, informs the Legionnaires that they must pay taxes on the gift before accepting it. Karate Kid insists that the Legion is a tax-free organization, but Bannan replies that Earth law stipulates that all private clubs with more than 25 members must pay full taxes, and the team currently has 26. He gives the Legion 24 hours to drop one member, or pay all back taxes owed. Several members nobly offer to resolve the dilemma by resigning: Timber Wolf and Chemical King, because they are the newest members, Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel, because they are the least useful, Brainiac 5, because he has performed the fewest feats in the past year, and Supergirl, because she has missed the most meetings. The Legion of Super-Pets appears and Supergirl's pets, Comet and Streaky, persuade her to stay by vowing to quit if she leaves. As leader, Karate Kid rejects all of the resignations proferred.

Finally, Superboy resigns and leaves without further explanation. Duo Damsel sees him alone outside, and correctly deduces that he felt he was not needed since Mon-El shares all his powers but not his Kryptonite weakness. He adds that he and Supergirl do not belong in the 30th century, but that he had summoned the Super-Pets via super-ventriloquism to keep her from leaving, because of her romance with Brainiac 5. Duo Damsel kisses Superboy goodbye before he returns to the 20th century, and the Legion erects a golden statue in his honor.

Superman rescues some astronauts in 801,970 A.D., goes to the year 1,001,970 and terraforms and repopulates a barren Earth, survives the attack of a drone-weapon powered by the dead intellect of Lex Luthor, and is helplessly thrown through the time-barrier even further into the future by a comet (Superman thinks "I'll keep going to the End of Time!")

However, Superman black outs and then relives events from his childhood, boyhood, and adulthood until he returns to the point at which he first took his time-trip, after which the time-lines diverge and he is free to live out his normal life again.

When a warp-transport device is donated to the Legion by the United Planets, Wayland Bannan, head of Earth's Bureau of Revenue and Taxation, informs the Legionnaires that they must pay taxes on the gift before accepting it.
