Synopsis for Superman: "Superman, You Scare Me to Death!"

Superman encounters a crippled girl named Christy on an ocean liner. Christy is terrified of Superman but ironically she likes Clark Kent's company. As a child, Christy formed a psychic link with a doll, and when the doll's legs were broken in a fire from which Superboy once rescued her, she psychically lost mobility in her own legs and developed a phobia of Superman.

Her fear drives Christy to escape Superman by hitching a ride in a jet with Clark Kent, but is shot down on a floating meteor inhabited by a killer robot. After she's trapped between Superman and the robot solider, she's forced to regain the use of her legs.

Rex Mason the Element man is despondent after his latest proposal to Sapphire is put off. He runs away to join a nearby circus. The owner of the circus is hopeful that Elemant Mans addition will boost ticket sales to his already ailing show. After a brief period and continued lackluster audiences, the owner decides to close the show. The Element Man is determined to save the show and its performers who have befriended him. He comes across a newspaper headline announcing an important summit between The Premier and the President of the United States. The next day a motorcade carrying the two statesman is sidetracked by detour signs that announce the circus. The Pemiere is excited at the thought of being entertained and they attend the show. The show is a smashing success and the circus is saved. Element Man even prevents a would be sniper from assassinating the two politicians.

Notes

The Element Man Story never identifies the two politicians in the motorcade but this issue came out in 1972. During this time President Richard Nixon was holding summits with Russian Secretary Leonid Brezhnev.
