Superman encounters a crippled girl named Christy on an ocean liner. Christy is terrified of Superman but ironically she likes Clark Kent's company. As a child, Christy formed a psychic link with a doll, and when the doll's legs were broken in a fire from which Superboy once rescued her, she psychically lost mobility in her own legs and developed a phobia of Superman.

Her fear drives Christy to escape Superman by hitching a ride in a jet with Clark Kent, but is shot down on a floating meteor inhabited by a killer robot. After she's trapped between Superman and the robot solider, she's forced to regain the use of her legs.
